On our way to SLC. Abilene made arrangements for me to drop this 3000lbs off at a local cartage company tonight at 8pm. I decided to go across Eisenhower and Vail to show Lee why I very rarely go that way. I'm waiting to hear back from Tim to see if I will be deadheading to the Colton yard tonight.

I took it on a personal level. Lee was driving, we decided to stop at this little cafe and we got greeted with that sign, I told Lee to turn the truck around and leave. I guess Podunk nowhere western Colorado has a hard on against our kind. I took my happy ### and my money and went some place else to eat. Before we left I did throw my garbage out though, not on the ground but in a garbage can, I didn't want the millionaire cafe owner to think less of me and my kind.

Got here to SLC at 8pm and was pulling out the gate empty at 8:30. I didn't get a load assignment or deadhead move. I'm not worried about it though, I'm quite sure I'll be deadheading down to Colton. And any way, they probably looked at the load we just did and figured we needed a break. We left Richmond 3am yesterday morning, did 2265 miles with 2 drops in 40 hours. Just fueled and showered, now it's time for bed .

One quick note, my paid trip miles from the Richmond yard, to Colorado Springs to Salt Lake City is 2265 with an extra stop off, I drove 2257 miles.

Was woke up by the chirping of my Qualcomm. Like I figured, deadhead down to Colton. They will be sending my produce load info on my way down today. It felt nice to sleep 8 hours with the truck stopped. Time to go to work........again.

On our way south from SLC we got a message to pick up our load going to London KY. It was a 10 hour drive. Lee got us here with 45 minutes left on his clock. I got here with 25 hours into a reset. My reset is up at 9am Richmond time, Lee's 10 hour break is up at 9:30am. Our load isn't ready so I will finish my reset here, then grab my load and leave. It's 2175 miles to London and I need to be there. 5am Tuesday, I'm quite sure we can do it.

I was reading an article which was describing the recomendations of a panel of consultants, economists, etc to the trucking industry about its ongoing staffing problems. The highlights are:
Stop paying hiring bonuses and start paying retention bonuses that matter
Give drivers annual pay increases and as best as possible, other career opportunitys in the industry
Devise route systems which increase the likelyhood of home time
    and the number one:
Pay them more money! They did not have an actual number, but the best guess of the panel was to increase the average income by 10k to 15k per year.
Does any of this make sense to you guys?

I would also add they found 65% + have no allegience to the company and even less feel valued by the company.
