also, concerning your charges, can you legally purchase a handgun? I'm pretty sure it's the same background check so if you can purchase a handgun, I would think you'd be able to get hazmat. at least in arkansas anyway

I think I will wait for six months or so now that I know I can just add it later. My money will be tight by the time I get my cdl anyway with school, and driving with mentor for six weeks soon after. Its good to know around how much I would be looking at though.
I bought a handgun couple of years ago, but didnt have to pay fot the background check. -
No you don't pay for the background check with a handgun but the dealer has to have one run on you through the FBI before they can legally sell it to you. So by you being able to purchase one, you're probably good to go. Also idk who you drive for but a lot of companies will pay your hazmat check anyway.

I dont drive for anyone atm, leaving for swift school the 16th. I only have my permit so far.

I assumed this as well, but your reply made it sound like any endorsement was written test only. I just wanted to make sure if someone found this thread later (or perhaps showed up in search result on the internet at large) that they weren't caught off guard. It still doesn't make sense how they do those two, I had a Class A with Class B permit (Class APB with TSP endorsements).
I do have my doubles/triples in addition to the S & P, and looked at the others but have never had a reason. The reason I have that one is I had to have it when I was driving back in 2012. -
You can add your hazmat or any other endorsement at any time. Never heard of a state that requires renewal every year.
