My opinion is different then some here. And I also agree with Chinatown.

That said, in this economy there is more opportunity for a new driver than Swift or Werner. Is Swift and Werner the worst? No, but they are pretty bad. There are worse small to medium size companies and there are better. The key is to find out how to evaluate the companies. This forum is a good source for that.

There are people that have good experience at Swift, Werner, or Covenant. But despite what anyone says, all these companies enjoy better than 100% turnover. They would not have a turnover anywhere near that if they were at all fair! 100% of people cannot be wrong; it is the companies that are the problem!

The hitch in going to one of these companies is not only how pathetic the pay, the work hours, the home time, the training, the lack of safety, but the lack of respect they provide you. Many in the office of these companies have no respect for their drivers. The companies have no respect in the industry. Your experience at one of these companies is more likely to be looked down upon then respected in subsequent jobs.

Then to top it off these companies abuse the DAC like mad. It may be that one of these companies do more to damage your career and future job prospects then they could ever do to help it.

Chinatown is a big fat liar. You do have to pay your dues. However, you can get a discount on those dues if you pay cash.

Both Werner and Swift have good things and bad things about them. The secret is for you to become one of the good things about them. Come to work with the right attitude. Learn all you can. If they are paying you $1000 per week, make them wish they were paying you $2000. Key your eyes and ears open. See what they do right. Ask them why they do things certain ways. Talk to everyone there. Be interest in others. Don't talk about yourself.

Who knows, you might end up CEO of the place.

Its extremely rare to have to touch freight for swift. And when you do they pay you for it. Alot of drop and hook. Double clutch is only what they make of it. I havent talked to one swift driver that does. Some mentors make you others tell you to learn to float. The biggest few problems with them is finding a good dm and pay. My dm rocks my pay sucks lol. It could be worse though I guess.

What does being a pro life advocate have to do with being a good truck driver? One has nothing to do with the other.

I wouldn't send an enemy to Werner. Was with them for a year. 15cpm deadhead LOL. My megacarrier of choice is USX but people hate them too, of your 2 choices Id go with Swift. THe first year is going to be rough no matter where you go, but there are a couple companies out there that will bleed you dry along the way. Werner is one of those unless of course you want to go "full ######" and hit up CR England.

If you don't mind my asking did any of these companies give any reason as to why they said no?

A misdemeanor charge in 2012. A flukie one at that, I broke a window to make a long story short. At the time I just plead no contest to be done with it. It's my only offense in my lifetime. I guess I should of kept pursuing getting it dropped.
