A turbo does not a super trucker make.
Rather, it's the driver who makes a Big truck super.

-
If you decide to try, can I watch?
-
They were building two stroke detroits well into the 90's And as far as I know they are still building the 149 series for large stationary applications.
You could still get a non turbo Mack up until the late 80's
I miss those old engines -
Thanx Tom.
In your opinion, do you think it can be accurately said that not ALL Big OTR trucks are running turbo charged engines?
-
For OTR use, who knows, there may still be a couple of old trucks running non turbo enginge. But I haven't seen one in years. Not too many people bought new non turbo trucks after the late 70's
The few that were sold were in vocational truck applications. Stuff like trash trucks, mixers, dumps
There might still be somebody running a non turbo 2 stroke detroit 8V71 OTR. Or some heavy hauler with a 12V71
But you would have to look really really hard to find one anymore. -
Thanx again, Tom.
Much appreciated.
BTW -- how far west are you headin' on Route 66?
-
Actually, it was invented by some Swiss guy in the early 1900s. Trains and ships started using them in the late 20s I believe. They started putting them in planes in the 30s to make a more dense air charge so they could achieve higher altitudes.
-
Turbos might make a plane perform better, but I think the German's nitrous oxide injection is the way to fly higher.
NO!
Not for the airplane engine ---
for the PILOT!
