My truck is a 2007 Century with a 06 14L. On a long downgrade where I'm on my jakes with some slight braking, after about 45-60 seconds of it the CEL will come on. Once I touch the throttle at any point and time it will go away. If I continue on the jakes after touching the throttle, it will come back on if jakes on after another 30-45sec then go back off once I hit the throttle. I check the codes threw the dash and monitor and it says, Low Volts warning. I have noticed that the gauges are kinda jumpy. Not very accurate, they jump along instead of a smooth motion. I was wonder if there is something that all the gauges are wired into that control the gauges or are they all ran individual threw out the motor an truck. I just thinking maybe a bad connection with the volts gauge, or bad gauge, that the vibration from the motor on the jakes is cause it to go in and out. Also Volts gauge never goes below 13V or throw warning light.
Note: I did go threw and clean all the battery connections, and connections on the alternator, and still have the problem. Batteries were holding 12.8 Volts each (all connections removed when tested) after sitting over 12hr without running. So that why I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the gauge or connections on the gauge.
Weird CEL

I have this similar issue. But, I just had head gasket replaced back in march and a liner done also. When I put Jake on while going down a hill it(chek engine lght) will come on after 30-45 sec. It will go off when I turn off jake or tap the throttle. My gauges(Tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure and temp) also my volt meter(its digital) will act up just on occasion and has nothing to do with the jake issue. Like today I was driving and those gauges all of the sudden went down to zero and voltage said 0.0....
Then a few minutes later it everything will start working again. Truck runs fine though.
I think we may have some corrosion or something on a line somewhere, I just don't know where to look. Batteries are a year old and cleaned the terminals also.
I too have an 07 freightliner but mines a Columbia. 14l Detroit. -
I don't have a clue what could cause it. Mechanical I'm decent at, electrical I'm on the fence. Does anyone know if there is a module that runs all the gauges or if they are ran off ECM individually. I'm pretty sure my pressure gauges are mechanical but the rest like: oil pressure, volt, water temp, fuel level, an boost are electrical gauges.

FWIW, i fixed my issue today, it happened again and this time my blower went out on my AC. Actually i was sitting there and i turned truck off and my blower was still blowing with no key in ..so i knew something wasn't right. Long story short, the line that goes from the ECM to the battery, i unhooked the line and poured some pepsi and cleaned a little bit of corrosion that was there ..

If you see no loss in engine performance then the issue is likely somewhere in your vehicle interface harness. That would be the part that goes from the ecm to all your gauges/switches in the cab. I would search for a loose connection. Have a buddy assist you. Lightly tug on different wire locations and have your assistant tell you if any of your gauge clusters wonk out. You should also download the online manual for your ecm. It'll have information on what each pin [within the connector] does/goes to. Most of the wires and terminals are repairable (and it'll tell you how to do that too).
