Simple answer= Don't do it leasing is a bad deal.... Look at all the forums here, you should be able to narrow down a list of companies you like simply by reading the forums on here... The company I like might be the company another driver hates...70s_driver, jbatmick and Chinatown Thank this. -
Most companies require you to be 23. Chinatown and others can address that as I haven't been 23 in 34 years.
Take negative comments about companies with a grain of salt. I have been fired by the best of them and it was always for something I did incorrectly. I do not get along with idiots and the larger a company is the more idiots they have working for them. Getting along is a skill set that you will need.
The lease to own option is one that many people try. Some succeed at it. It is a good option if you are desperate. You will pay way too much for someone else's used equipment. You will pay a 7% premium on your money over that a bank would give you. But with no credit and no clue as to how to run a business, it is an option. What you will have to do is learn very quickly how to avoid mistakes.
I have met people at American Central Transportation who have made their lease purchase work. Those who do are sharper than the average bear boo-boo.
I would encourage you to join OOIDA right away and take any lease you are asked to sign to them. Signing a lease makes you the head of your own company. Would you want to work for a company that was headed by someone that knew as little about the business as you do? Baby steps. Get your license, work for a company, learn all about trucking. Then go out and beat the world.Chinatown Thanks this. -
I'm on owner operator/company owner. My insurance would not let me use you due to no experience and your age.
Therefor your limited to companies that are bigger like Swift, JB Hunt, ect who are self insured and hire inexperienced drivers. So you have to do your time with someone like that, then get a bad taste in your mouth for trucking and quit in 6 months.
I shouldn't make it sound so harsh but your in for long weeks, lots of miles, and you'll see how the system works. Most don't like the system because your paid by the mile and work 85 hours a week and bring home what you would make if you had 2 jobs and home every night.Wooly Rhino Thanks this. -
Melton Truck Lines is an excellent company and hires at 21 yrs. old.
Try these companies also:
System Transport - trucks have APU's
TWT Refrigerated Service - trucks have APU's.
KKW Trucking in Pomona hires at 21.
Navajo Express - 21 yrs. old new CDL graduates - Kenworth trucks with APU's.
Watkins-Shepard - I think they hire 21 yr. old drivers.
Pick one and go for it. In 6 mos. if you're not content, move on to something else, because 6 mos. experience opens many, many more opportunities. All the companies listed above hire new CDL graduates.DannyD Thanks this. -
With no experience, you really don't have a very large assortment of decent companies to choose from .
