I feel like a newbe,need honest advice!

    Been an o/o for years,sold out in dec 07.Now I need to find a good company.I know nothing about these companies,since I delt with brokers.Now I have to start again.I like tankers and wide loads. With 30 years exp.I want an honest godd paying co.

    Man oh man are you in for a surprise !!!!

    For all intents and "payroll" you are a rookie. And subject to rookie pay. Too many companies are unwilling to take "your" resume as real experience. Since you are the one who verifies the experience.

    Check the trucking mags for your experience. There are several companies that are seeking people with experience hauling wide/oversize loads. IMO this would be your best route, pay wise.

    You might want to check out Lone Star Transportation based out of Ft Worth TX. They do alot of oversize loads. And they are not that far from you. Welcome to the forum and good luck in your search. Hope that helps.....

    Welcome driver ! Well I have been in your shoes and it is tuff finding the "right" company out there .
    Some ideas might be talk to drivers in your area , the web , and those little ad books in truck stops as well .

    If you've got tanker experience you should be able to get on as a company driver at one of the big tanker outfits. If not that then flatbed. The big dry box haulers are all the same basically. I pulled a tanker for Chemical Leaman Tank Lines for years untill they closed the doors and I never did get used to all the BS that goes along with Van work.

    You might want to check into Sammons Trucking. My husband works for them and they are a great company.

    All I can suggest is don't work percentage work by the mile and be sure you have a fuel surcharge. There are different formulas for surcharges. I'll be honest I miss it. I switched from mileage to percentage,dealing with brokers deadhead miles.Also I was leased to a carrier who never paid me that hurt.Just be careful.......and the best of luck!!
