Oh, I hear ya. I scan CL every couple of days, over 100 postings today alone, and it's sad, I'll see a certain posting, then it will be gone for a while, then, a coupe weeks later, it will re-appear, so you know it must be a crappy job, and someone tried it, and quit. There's this one job keeps popping up, it claims Wis. to Ia. and "great home time". Now being in the business for 35+ years, I recognized the name of the company, and they were shysters years ago, and now today, I see that same ad, so who knows what they make you do. And the "on call" thing would make me go screaming into the night.:biggrin_25513:
Bingo patty, I did a LOT of so called "local" work with day cabs, and before the latest regs, it wasn't unusual to start at midnite, and wouldn't get done until 3 pm. Go home, try and sleep (dogs barking, kids screaming) and be back at midnite and do it again. Someone on another thread was considering buying a day cab, and I told them, get a small sleeper, sleeping over the wheel is the PITS!!
My day cab at SNI had a board I had cut from home depot.I didn't get to use it much, but it worked in a pinch.I had it notched out around the shifter. It would just fit for a nap,if I laid down with arms by my side

    dca and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Companies sure do like glamouring up their ads don't they.I'm finding so many companies that's not even remotely close to what I thought it would be.
Oh, I hear ya. Hi dca, I drove a Mack day cab that had a box that someone made between the seats, and that helped, but it wasn't until I bought my own truck with a sleeper, I couldn't believe how good that felt to stretch out in a real bed. The downside was, many times I was so tired, I never heard the alarm(or shut it off) and woke up 3 hours later, rested, but mega late!!!:biggrin_25518:

That's easier said then done.Dispatchers keep track of your hrs. Many local jobs don't have a time clock to punch Alot. of local jobs pay either by the mile by the load or by the day. Also dispatchers don't believe in giving the drivers a few extra hrs before you report to work, they give you a pre load before you're done for the day or tell you what time to come in and for me it was always right when my 10 hr was up.Then you don't know if you have to work Saturday till Fri and right before your dispatcher leaves for the day.Local work is far from easy.Think right now if I cant find the local work im looking for,ill settle for class B.I see so many local positions online and in the paper, gee I wonder why.You do work every bit of your 14 and you're so wore out and tired and dread having to do it all over again day after day.Im desparately looking a local job that pays me by the hr and pays good. It's not easy believe me.

They have too, or they won't get anyone to apply. I laughed when one job was labeled, "Liquid nutrient application specialist". You know what that is, A CRAP HAULER!!

Its really depressing. You see an ad and sounds really good you fill out an application you get interviewed and its like no thanks id rather pick up cans for a living.I did apply for a local driver for UPS pays 18.75 an hr.I had an intense interview with 2 ppl there and it went well.Won't know till July though.
They have too, or they won't get anyone to apply. Yep, that's true, I've heard of people that went OTR just to get some rest after doing local work.

That I wouldn't doubt.Im hoping this shuttle job goes thru.Pay may not be what I want but anything is better then delivering waiting 4 hrs not getting paid for it and only get paid by the mile. With what local companies pay id rather work 10 to 12 hrs a day not 14.
Yep, that's true, I've heard of people that went OTR just to get some rest after doing local work.
