The media will say anything that draws the public in like flies even if it ruins the industries reputation at its all time worst.Sad thing is this is just the beginning.Every station that has guest on has their own story as to what happened and their own assumptions about drivers,carriers and the industry which the people hear and believe every word of it.

Regulations and rules will never fix this problem. It's sad that someone died, but go ahead and make more rules for us. Drivers will continue to drive poorly and not rested. Free will, I guess.

I know plenty of good drivers that drink 5 hour energy and the like. They still sleep every night and run legal. Gotta love the media and the cops, saying whatever they have to in order to get out of an investigation and pin this on all the drivers out there just trying to make a living.

Another related, but unrelated observation. I watch big rigs tailgate CONSTANTLY in the Pittsburgh area (100 mile radius is what I run). All of us need to be professional out there, but not enough are. Drivers let the 4 wheelers aggravate them into a tailgate. Also some drivers get too used to their area and drive a bit faster on the areas you can't see (curves/hills).
I have an advantage, though. I get to go home every night. It is easier for me to say "drive a bit slower and don't tailgate".
No matter what the verdict is, or what the media says about this driver, I will take it with a lot of salt. This guy could have just been paying attention to something else for a second too long. That's all it takes.
Driving a big rig is really challenging. We all have a lot to watch out for, even when we keep an 8 second gap ahead of us. Things happen. I find myself challenged not to drive like I'm in a four wheeler at work. I get that sense of urgency and with all the construction here, it's incredibly easy to let your attention drift to the 40 things you see around you that change traffic conditions.

I have a walmart income in my household. She is in the $20.00/hr neighborhood. Full time, Full bennies -- including aflack.
She isn't alone. Many of her co-workers make about the same.
They get to that level by having open scheduling availability, doing their job, and applying for advanced positions. The people stuck on part-time and low wages are often times people with limited scheduling availability and/or otherwise don't want to advance within the company. If all you ever strive to do is round up shopping carts, you probably aren't going to get many raises.
And another thing, I happen to know that some employees openly discuss how to game the system. They don't want to bother learning how to become a department manager, but they will sit in the lunch room and teach each other how many hours they need to limit their schedule too to qualify for welfare, food stamps, and housing subsidies. -- The attitude is... why work 40 hours when you can work 24 and soak the Government for the difference?Boy Howdey, drozzer69, Extreme4x4 and 2 others Thank this. -
