Here's a suggestion to the DOT

Two points just for you consideration.

I was watching Smokey and the Bandit the other night and I noticed that Jerry Reed never stopped to take a 30 minute break. Makes me wonder what his DAC looks like.

Now a more serious note.

This is a real mixed ruling. The good thing is in order to change things we need to be able to remove dead weight. The same logic should be applied to Civil Service jobs. However, Judges passing laws is totally wrong. And using "if we can save one kid" logic is scary as all get out. Are children the new dictators of this nation?

 

Well... SatB came out in '77, the HOS were much looser back then. No 30 minute breaks, elogs, 14 hr day limit. Just two or three comic books and you were on your way.

Why, Mr Reed did not once pull over for Sheriff Buford T. Justice's flashing lights.

I do wonder how many drivers began truck driving because of this movie, or trucking movies in general.

Hi Ebola Guy, RIGHT HERE!!! My first ride in a TT was with a buddy that had a w900 just like Snowman's and the cowboy hat to boot. We went from Laurens Ia. to Jax, Fla. on a 30 day temp. tag, never crossed a scale, left lane all the way. Man, that was fun. Sadly, we paid the price for that behavior, but it was a heck of a toboggan ride while it lasted.Not to mention, how many Trans Ams were sold!

 

Sleep Apnea is a very real thing, that effects millions without them knowing it. Somebody with it could sleep for 10hrs and not be as rested as somebody that didn't have it after say 4hrs of sleep, that can absolutely be a dangerous thing.

HOWEVER, Dr's pushing sleep apnea studies to people showing zero evidence of the condition for kickbacks from sleep clinics is completely unacceptable and I agree something needs to be done about it.

 

I thought sleep apnea only affected truck drivers <insert sarcasm here>.

 

You can not be serious, right? It's obvious you have no clue wtf is going on in the real world.

 

No ma'am: I am labeling dangerous drivers as bad drivers. And those who continue to defend their dangerous practices.

Y'all keep pissing and moaning about regulations in general, and HOS specifically; yet few of you admit they come about because of the bad acts of the few, those same few you're defending for some odd reason. It's like defending the kid that just shot up a school: it doesn't help the cause. At all.

If you, or other drivers, are following the law and not driving exhausted, then y'all don't have anything to worry about. These laws are meant to do two
things: protect the general public from those bad drivers; and to protect drivers from the companies who would push y'all into doing something stupid (see Abe's video for a perfect example of a whole passel of laws that were violated, without regard for the safety of others).

If you feel like you're being "punished" for the bad acts of others, then demand something be done about THEM. If you don't like the law, make sure your voice is heard when the time comes to change it.

I wonder....if a school bus driver stays up all night making you tube videos, does he still have to finish his route in the morning or does he get paid to pull over and take a nap with the kindergarten kids?
