I wouldn't think twice about hiring a 51 year old but I would think long and hard before I hired a 25, 30, or even a 35 year old to drive a truck across the continent.

Being a female an 51 you have nothing to worry about ,You can go to CDL school for free an choose who you want to drive for ,Check with your state employment office for WIA grant funds

Nothing is really hard about the physical.Just want to really check you out to see if you have any teal Health problems that will keep you from sitting for Long periods of time or If you take Medication that wil make you unsafe to hold a CDL license

I got back into trucking early last year at the age of 57. In my orientation at Swift 20% were 50 y.o. or older. Companies LIKE older folks because we've "been there, done that" and generally know what work entails.

From my stint in trucking starting in '77 to '81 and then getting back in the business last year it's refreshing to see how many women are driving solo or all woman teams now. I'm sure you'll get your share of knuckleheads that might give you grief, but all in all you should have a positive experience.

By being out of the workforce "forever" I will suppose that you had "family responsibilities" that might have been a full time job and a half? I'm not sure how that plays out with company hiring practices, but just be honest with the recruiters and applications and go for it.

As long as you are willing to get your hands dirty, work hard, and are willing to learn you'll be fine.
