    My Rand McNalley GPS tried to route me down the "TRUCKERS DON"T TAKE THIS ROAD YOU WILL GET STUCK OR FALL OF THE MOUNTAIN" road into Big Island this morning. Tonight it tried to send me to Indy via Knoxville (an extra 50 miles than going thru New River and US 35). When I force routed it the way I wanted to go it had a total trip time of 10:14, or 30 minutes shorter than going via Knoxville.

    Without even looking at the map if I remember correctly that is about a Level 7 Goatpath

    ===

    So yeah... that cancellation really ****ed me over bad this week. Had my nice week all planned out, everything was gonna go together like a puzzle with the fuel and the loads and the paycheck and yeah... there is always that one piece that gets lost.

    What is important to remember (and something that I still have to remind myself of often) is that trying to piece everything together to make a cool looking settlement at the end of the week is not always going work. And what you've (and I) got to remember is that that is ALL it is... is a cool looking settlement. It doesn't matter when the load pays out, it doesn't matter when I fuel, at the end of the day (in the metaphorical sense, lol) it will all get to you or be deducted at one point or another.

    And that's what I have to realize as I sit here frustrated that my good week is no longer.

    So after scrambling to find a load, I tore out of Findlay OH, stopped and filled up my tanks (because this new load actually brought in more revenue than the previous one, allowing me to fill up on cheaper fuel and still come out the same on my net settlement), and went on the trailer search.

    Of course, you've got to remember that by now I'm in the land of the eternal Goatpath (Indiana) which will make trying to race a ticking 14 a losing battle every time. Goatpath to the empty. Goatpath to the interstate. Get teased with 17 miles of interstate travel. Then another 70 mles of goatpath to the pickup. 55... 45... 30.... 25... 30.... 45... 55... repeat this over. And over. And over.

    Needless to say after all of that, getting to the customer and then the lady at the guard shack couldn't remember her password (at this point I am seriously about to start banging my head on the steering wheel) dropping the empty, picking up the loaded, securing the loaded the best I could to prevent an avalanche, then repeat the goatpath all the way back to the interstate again... I didn't win.

    So I won't be able to make the delivery by cutoff tomorrow, and of course I filled the tanks earlier thinking I would be able to... so combine that with the last big revenue load being pushed over to next week and I'll roughly break even this week. It doesn't hurt me at all, I don't put myself in a position where I'm living paycheck to paycheck, it just sucks seeing a $1500 paycheck go to $0 because someone somewhere ****ed up and I get ****ed in the process.

    But, at the same time, it just means next weeks settlement will look very good if I decide to run the whole week.

    And that's what I'm getting it... its just numbers, you have to look at the BIG picture overall and not just "I made this much in this pay period".

    And on that note... I am exhausted and going to bed after a quick look at the load board, and sleeping in as long as I friggin feel like tomorrow because I am no longer in a rush. Time to start looking for a way out of the DANGER ZONE.

    We didn't even put that NY sticker on the truck. Also don't even know where it is. Too bad there is no other way to get to Maine(because I want crab cakes). Oh well.
