Do you ever click/tap "On-Duty" during traffic or back ups?
I've noticed I can go 2 or 3 miles before the "On Duty-Driving" notification shows up on screen.
I realize I might be pressing the issue, but I'd like to make money while I'm stuck in a truck. Have any of you had issues/big friggin' DOT fines for doing this?

Thanks for all of the replies, everyone. I appreciate it.

Does no good hand ...u will gain virtually nothing as the device notes the time it detected movement and logs back to that spot when it...you switch back to drive. If there was potential gain you would have too many miles vs drive time and be speeding.

    Just saying....

    Dang.
I knew it was too good to be true when I got through Orlando in 3 minutes..
    At least I wasn't bored.

    edit:
    Another thought.......
What if I was an LTL driver and had multiple drops/pick ups within a 3-mile area?
Would it be worthwhile to tap "On Duty" when I stop each time?
I'm thinking I could make money and not be speeding.
I'm not worried, as a new company driver, about mileage, yet.
I think I get paid to deliver freight.

Mileage will, hopefully, be my base pay.

It could take hours to load and unload. But, I might only lose ON DUTY hours vs. driving hours if I used it sparingly.

    Am I right?

Don't worry about it.... focus on the freight.....log in, PT and roll off. It switches to drive automatically and back to OD automatically based on truck movements. If your LTL best be paid hourly in the city, you're toast on the hub.

Mileage on the linehaul is good.

    Good luck

    Thanks.
I'll get $16 per stop, minimum, and .38 per mile. I'll get additional .04 above VA/MD border and additional .04 for HazMat and additional , etc. It's a pretty good company, from what I can tell. Bank of America sucks in comparison.
I'm thinking I'll be ok. Approx. $1300 last week, net.
    So far, so good; right?

Well,my peoplesnet is currently broken. Darn the luck.Faced with the rigorous task of a paper log and nobody knowing where Im at or when I left or arrived.Anyway supposed to show a full 15 minutes for inspections. You cant do a real pre trip in 6 minutes. Cmon. Pre trip is on duty not driving. Not off duty. Plus off duty you dont get paid for (hourly drivers).Usually put trailer # in that white box and put OK.Then click "driving and hit the road. You can stay on on duty while you hook your trailer(in the parking lot. Take it very slow (creep around and it shouldnt go to driving. There all kinds of selections from dot inspections ,maintenance, breakdowns etc.If you go somewhere and switch trailers, guess what. Need to do an intermediate inspection 15 minutes. Can be in this mode while you drop one and hook to one. And plug in the new trailer # in the white box with OK. Also log completely out if you're off the next day or someone else is using it. Dont want the truck moving with them possibly not logging in.

    '10YOTAtaco Thanks this.

Haha. Ok. Where did the 400 mile route come from? I've had several 400+/- days. But, I've yet to see a 400 mile paycheck. What gives?

I hear ya. I know you can't do a full pretrip in 5-15 minutes. It took me almost 45 minutes when I was in school. They taught me how the truck works and what to look for. It wouldn't be very cost-effective for a carrier that needs me to drive 11 every day. But, I learned a whole lot. I'd recommend that place to any other accountant/white collar punk that doesn't know what trucking involves. Good people over there.
I don't expect to slip-seat at this company.
    Thanks for your response.
I'm just asking. However, I'm not going to log a "real" pretrip and lose on duty or driving hours again. How can they prove when I physically inspected my CMV? I'm all about being a company driver/representing my company well. But, I'm not interested in giving money away.
Where'd you read the "full 15 minute" rule/legislation? That might ruin best laid plans.
    Thanks, man.
