Stay away from mega carriers if at all possible.None of the depts. is on the same page.No reason for being stuck in a room for 2 weeks,no reason at all.Companies don't care about students or drivers especially Werner. They could have got the ball rolling right away to get your trk fixed and found another place other then that shop that wasn't going to get to it till the following Wednesday. The mega carriers are horrible when it comes to the drivers wants and needs. You're left on the back burner.I don't blame you one bit for going home.If you have to sit why not sit at home with family.Thats one of the things companies leave out when hiring students, you may have to sit for days waiting for your trk to get fixed which means you're out a lot longer then your training.Next company try and find a small to med size carrier. The pay is the same but at least you're more then a 5 diget number and not buried under their other employees files.Hang in there it will get better in time.

^^That's pretty funny, cause I have told my wife the same thing for years. She complains they hold her up going to work, and I tell her they have been up probably twice as long
as she has,and are sleepy, hungry,broke,and p.o.
The daily driver has no idea what a trucker goes through, just to pizz them off for that short period of time.nofilter Thanks this. -
Yes if i had not been in a hurry to start getting paid for a job.I would have studied , researched and looked in nooks and crannies of what I was doing. But after driving taxi and making no money I was in a panic ......well Im still in a panic.I find a job I look it up here and there are horror stories attached to them all.
Some one says , dont go there another says they are happy there. As a newbie driver you do not have lots of options as not many will take you as a new driver...so your vulnerable to folley. Then there is the matter of pressing bills and shut offs and the stress of finding anything that pays, again vulnerable to making bad choices.
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON ...I just hope I can come out with my family intact, in the end. -
I searched the Jacksonville area real quick for jobs...if you get out and get in front of people you will land something quickly...save the OTR horror story though...LTL, food service or beverage companies will be the best to start with.OPUS 7, Todd Siegal and nofilter Thank this.

Do not get overanxious! You make bad decisions when you panic.
I have been there, and family comes first.
Try to make a base plan, and another for backup in case it doesn't work out.
Make those decisions early in your day,not when you feel bad,or hopeless.
Beat the bushes, and do lots of phone calls, walk ins,and keep a note pad to jot
down any trucking companies you see that might be a lead.
Try ltl companies in your area (walk in).You might land dock work, and go from there.
Carry resume, and copy of all the good stuff they want.nofilter Thanks this. -
How did you manage to find this website after the fact of going to school? By your own accord you didn't do any research. In the day of the internet and this website being by far the top one as far as getting questions answered prior to entering you need to shoulder the blame here. I'm not a driver yet but possibly sometime coming up. I have spent a lot of hours on here by far most of it reading and occasionally posting. Contrary to what you say for the most part it's not a secret that you need to go OTR for awhile before a local job may come available for you. One big advantage you have is that you are in a major metro area which opens up far more local opportunities. You've got your CDL now get out there and look. You may be able to get on with a beverage company or food service outfit. It will be manual labor more than driving but it's a job. You may even get on with an LTL outfit as well. A little effort on your part prior to attending school and you would have avoided much of this and at least wound up starting with a better company. Going to a driving school open house on Friday and deciding to start school on Monday doesn't make a lot of sense considering you have a family that will be affected as well. Must be some great Kool Aid the school serves. I sincerely do wish you the best of luck.

This too, shall pass.
With your experience, and the situation that you left Werner with, you will probably end up at another bottom feeder. Don't judge the entire industry on what happened at Werner, like YOU said, better planning would have helped.
Good luck, whichever way life takes you. -
Hang in there fish...
Things will get better it's amazing what these companies are getting away with these days when the truth is ...
WITHOUT DRIVERS THEY DON'T HAVE A JOBTodd Siegal and nofilter Thank this. -
i DON'T KNOW HOW i FOUND THIS WEBSITE. bUT IT DOESN'T GIVE A VERY GOOD CROSS SECTION OF TODAY'S TRUCKERS AS VERY FEW PEOPLE older than myself can even surf the net. Sorry about caps. Trucking has been going steadily down hill since I started and a constant influx of foreigners is just the beginning. We are by far the largest pool of unskilled over regulated slaves in the free world. I suggest you learn too weld.nofilter and truckinmike1984 Thank this.
