I drive a W900, the radio is in the factory stock location over head console, the amp is screwed to the rear of the passenger seat base, non air ride, out of the way and it gets all the air flow it needs and I can reach it from my seat no problem.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not trying to run 1000 watts just want to upgrade my 250 and wanted to know what your all running. I was thinking about a 400 or 500 watt amp. I just started talking skip and have been making some contacts but somedays I just don't have enough to git er done. My 959 is overhead and my amp is on the side of the pass. seat, the batteries are under it. Thanks!

Skip is all about conditions not watts.

Not true. And anybody that has ever talked skip and used amps knows this. Granted you need the right conditions, but you may not be able to participate well without "extra" watts, and the more the merrier!

Going from 250W to 1000W will raise your signal one S-unit. It's doubtful that anyone would be able to tell the difference.

A 250W setup that puts out a clean signal will out-talk a 1000W "splatter box" any day of the week.

Turn on your truck stereo, and tune to the local AM "news/talk" station. That's what you want your radio to sound like. 100% modulation, maybe a bit of compression, and NO echo. Echo is for those people who don't have anything interesting to say, so they try to make the signal itself "interesting".

The Galaxy DX 959 that I use in the truck is set this way. It dead keys about 10 watts and peaks about 32 with the ALC and modulation limiter intact. The tech set the modulation to just under 100% and I use the D104M6B amplified mic. It sounds very smooth and clear, and plenty loud, but not garbled at all. I get compliments all the time on the sound.

Sounds like you found a tech with a clue. That's rare these days.

what about the coax that leads from the radio to the Amp ,you would need quite a bit if you wanted to do a proper install . Or do you run it from the back of the radio straight up into the back of the Amp in the overhead compartment .

that sounds like a nice install you have there but once again you must use quite an amount of coax cable
Jumper lead from Amp to the radio.
