You are starting to tick me off. I'm not a homeless person, I don't need or want your sympathy. I'm a long haul trucker, love being a long haul trucker. I make great money, good benefits and little stress. I also have a hot wife, three kids and they live with it. Quit with this homeless person crap. The only reason I'm hungry on the road is because it's lunch time and I'm heading to a truck stop, the same as office people are hungry during the same hour. You don't have to "be careful" around me any more than you do the banker in the Honda. You had a bad experience, probably wasn't as bad as you make it out cause I'm sensing a whiner with you, so man up and drive. Or join the long, long ranks of those who couldn't bear to sleep in a truck and miss some family time.Dinomite, Jumbo, harlycharly55 and 10 others Thank this.

I under stand the guys that think Im a cry baby .Its just the industry goes thru hundreds of good people every year and HAS TO CHANGE.Sure there are guys like you that take what ever comes down the pike swallow it down and keep going .real men are hard to come by .Too many mommas boys in this world.
Its the trueth of this industry that gets the marine guy "starting to piss him off" .
the truth is this industry "tests you " its called is unheard of in any other industry. I can assure you a few hidden camera journalists would have a feild day going from driving school, money mill...all the way thru training and initial trucking .This industry would change and you would have more families staying together less of the nonsense attached to this industry would be gone in a snap of a pending group law suit.
The days of sleeping in a hammock under your trailer is long over .The industry needs to correct it self before it gets national attention for producing homeless but working people. The responsibility and training hoops you have to go thru for low pay is just silly.
I say homeless and I know it ticks off people the truth always does.Just go to any truck stop you will see some truckers that have it together ...but wait stand and look around and you will see more truckers that look like vagrants then men with a job.Its a sign of a profession heading for a total over haul not a sign of the drivers as much as, how they are treated .They are under paid and over worked and that is not of their doing.
but the term does apply as they are almost never HOME.The industry is going to have to change just by the sheer numbers the driving school churns out and the sheer numbers the big companies spit out it starts to catch up with the industry and finally change is forced upon them to change .
Im not blaming the drivers ,I am really just observing a industry that have done the same things so long its the norm. Its only driving not rocket science. There are lots of loner types that are happy with the way it is.But as a industry thats always presenting a professional glossy ad campaign with shiny pictures of successful drivers shaking corporate hands outside the shiny trucks in all their adds. Then you sign up and you see worn out men wondering around truck stops like homeless people...its the first thing that comes to mind while observing the industry as a whole when your actually driving from place to place.
The first thing that comes to mind is no way like the ADVERTISEMENT you see ! NOT EVEN CLOSE !!!
look on craigs list its is full of truck driving jobs, look on the back of every corporate trailer "DRIVERS NEEDED CALL" Its obvious they are scrambling for new blood to feed upon.
Look at the news truckers wrecking all the time ....all the time... used to be almost unheard of ...now its common place.Go to your local terminal they have the accidents on the big screen tv, one after the other .DRIVE SAFE >>BE SAFE OUT THERE...but they work the drivers till they are a hazard on the road .
To those that offer advise thank you VERY MUCH.To those that 'whine " about my "whining" I understand. -
I can still sleep on a hammock under my trailer and go home to my 4br ranch home and spend time with my wife and parents. There are dues to be paid before respect and status is earned and I can assure you that come in EVERY industry.... even McDonalds. The drivers that look homless look homless cuz they don't take care of themselves or simply don't care to. For every 10 cdl grads in one year only 1/3 will remain another year and another half drop out.... and you can quote me on that cuz all internet statistics are true!
Haha. We can all blame the industry, we can blame the companies, or we can take responsibility for our own paths and be the best we can.... be the best you can. Every day. Every minute.truckinmike1984 and Lonesome Thank this. -
Oh, I can sleep in a hammock cuz that's oilfield.... not truck stops. Those are pretty gross, and full of homeless people. Eeew

Every industry that pays good has barriers to entry. Heck, my wife, who has a Juris Doctorate, not only had to pass a state exam given only twice a year, that is corrected to fail a certain percentage (30-40%) of exam takers, but then had to work 70-80, and a few 96 hours a week for a $40k a year salary. I made more than that at Covenant my first year. Those that go for their MD work in far worse conditions and for many more hours in a row during their residency. Apprentices get the crap jobs, end of story. An electrician's helper working in the attic of a 50's FL home with their tiny attics in the middle of summer. The roofer's helper hauling bundles of shingles up a ladder, the new salesperson making cold calls because they don't enjoy a client base that just reorder like those that have already built one from scratch. Please spare us your pity party. Nothing is going to change, pay your dues, or sell yourself to a desperate employer. You live in the worst market in the country for entry level truckers, but you would already know that if you did one bit of research. Evidently, you didn't do any research on driving a cab either. Talk about homeless bums. I found out an acquaintance from high school drove a cab. I found out because he was shot and robbed while sleeping in his cab and it was on the news.
As far as the "homeless truckers" go, in life there are many types of people, no matter what industry or level of success. I semi-famous millionaire customer (on local TV) that always came in looking like a bum with food stained clothes, but would have no problem dropping $2k for the newest, latest and greatest Star TAC cell phone or some other electronics. Some guys have the discipline to look good when no one is watching and some don't. Ever been to WalMart?
You've been given some very good prospects for finding a job in FL, instead of thanking anyone and updating us on who you've applied to, you continue to whine about the "industry". You're not going to make it. Maybe it's time to watch some more late night tv to fins your next easy job in high demand that pays$$$. I always see the court reporter school ads, maybe that is your next job.Stuka, truckinmike1984, harlycharly55 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Love it when a guy who couldn't even make it 6 months tells me the "truth" to my own industry.
truckinmike1984, 88 Alpha and Dinomite Thank this.
