Hello everyone, my name is Kyle. I'm 21 years old out of a smallish town in Missouri. About a month ago I went to CRST to attempt to obtain my CDL. I was the first person in my class to pass the tests (all 3 first try), and was sent to the DMV to get my permit. The day before I was supposed to head to the actual school to start driving my recruiter called me with some bad news... I was being kicked out because I failed a drug test (THC) almost two years ago in court. Now he told me they only found this out simply because I wrote this on the paper in orientation.. I'm an honest guy and I lost my chance because of honesty.. no big deal (CRST was a horrible company from what I could tell) I'm not going to let that stop me. Now what I'm here to ask is, what companies do I have a shot at in obtaining my CDL and a job? I currently do have my CDL PERMIT from Iowa. I've been somewhat discouraged by others regarding my age with the whole truck insurance thing. Now just to say, I am drug free, and I have been for over a year. I'm very serious about this as driving a truck is the only thing I want to do with my life. I have no family and hardly any friends.. and driving is my passion. Would anybody kindly give me some advice on some companies to contact to see about getting into school? I've got 3 days until I'm homeless and living on the streets so time is of the essence. I will keep tabs on this thread and will reply to any questions you may have asap. I thank you for your time.

I'm sure some one can give you better info on schools/companies than I can, but I will give you a word of advice. There is a difference between being an honest guy and voluntarily disclosing unnecessary info. What you have done in the past is of no concern to a future employer.

Indeed, but on the Montgomery county website in Texas where I have a misdemeanor it does say I failed a ua for thc so I'd rather just be up front about it rather than get fired for it down the road.. (although my recruiter said they never would have known)

The guy at CRST was telling you what to do, as best he could.

Go to another company and start over. Say nothing about your "experience" at/with CRST.

Do not "volunteer" information about a positive drug test years ago.

That was then. This is now.

The answer to any questions that exclude you need to be "No".

    Do you understand ?

    I understand what your saying.

I'm not sure what the details of/for a criminal background check.

The guy at CRST may have been trying to tell you that it doesn't go that far. Maybe only federal or state. Maybe only felonies.

You'll have to hunt-up that information, or hopefully someone more knowledge about that detail than I am will chime in hear.

Yes, be upfront about the misdemeanor because they will find out, but that's all they need to know.

Don't know the age limit for these schools, but you can try them:

    Witte Bros. in Troy, MO

Southern Refrigerated Transport in Texarkana- they furnish bus ticket, free hotel room and 3 meals a day.

    Midwest-Coast Transport - MCT

    Trailiner Corp. in Springfield, MO

Most likely CRST has reported your being terminated from the program due to their knowledge of a failed UA elsewhere.

If it is on your DAC, you are kind of screwed. If they did not put it on your DAC, as others mentioned....DONT SAY ANYTHING.
