I still remember when it happened. Yes its old, the fact that the jury is trying to decide whether its manslaughter or an accident is happening this week.

Darn rookies, so often discarding the the Smith System for their preferred Braille System. "Sorry!"

"A jury found driver Hector Pena and a trucking company at a fault for the death of 11-year-old Christina Lopez. The jury awarded Lopez's family $6.7 million in damages."

    http://www.guidrynews.com/story.aspx?id=1000048251

"The manslaughter charge is a second degree felony. Pena’s bond has been set at $50,000."

This is tragic, but as a driver who may accidently end up in a similar situation, what I want to know is: Did his company bail him out after the grand jury indictment (where would he get 50K)? Did he have a company provided lawyer when charged criminally and civilly and now (two years later)? And in the civil case judgment, how much of the 6.7 million is he personally responsible for? I read another article somewhere that the "driver settled with the family", no mention of the company. Still looking for more information.

I ask, because if a company driver is not fully indemnified in cases of accidents, then the true cost of being a driver comes nowhere close to being offset by the average compensation drivers earn, and so the inherent risks do not equal the rewards.

    281ric Thanks this.

the basic inherit risks of our jobs don't equal the rewards on the levels of rewards, when you consider what we deal with even when it comes to not being in fatality accident.
Every driver out there, today- is out of his god ###### mind.
