Picklechips is right, it doesn't take a lot of power just the right conditions.

Not a problem, I use a single Wilson 2000 on drivers mirror run the coax thru the factory hole in the roof all the way across and down the passanger side to behind the sleeper curtain then down to the amp. Then from the amp right back the same exact route to the CB. Power for the amp is run under the factory floor mats and I drilled a whole betwen the drivers seat and the side wall which is directly over the batteries. Be sure to use a rubber grommet and sealer to weather proof it. So far no problem and it looks nice and neat. If the amp is placed where you could possibly hit it and cut your leg use some of the plastic corner molding you can get a home depot to protect the edges from you leg hitting it. Use one 18 ft and one 9 ft coax.

If this were true, then you'd hear the boys on channel 6 EVERY DAY of the week, but there have been days where even channel 6 was completely dead, as was the other 39 channels. I seriously doubt they took a day off of babbling on about nothing after a day of exposing themselves to a bunch of RF. No doubt about it, bump bump.

The fact is this: CB is a lot like 10 meters, in which it is hit or miss for DXing. Some days the band is wide open, other days not so wide open, and then other days not open at all.

I've already told the story of talking over 1000 miles away on a stock 4 watt AM only CB and a Wilson 1000 on top of a Chevy S-10. Noticed I said "4 watts". You say "impossible"? Well, I did it.

Power from an amp only takes you but so far, but if there's no skywave propagation going on, then line of sight is about the best you can do.

But everyone knows, no real truck driver's radio is complete unless it has echo, roger beep, at least 2 noise toys, a confederate flag face plate, all the modulation limiters snipped/maxed out, blue LED's and jewel knobs. Chrome covers are a plus.

I didn't say anything was impossible. And I'm not going to get into a p#$%*&^ match with you ham guys. I'll just say you guys are right, 4 watts will out talk 1000 watts!l Heck I don't know why anybody would even buy a amp!! :biggrin_25517:

I have been enjoying, I've had a cb for 30 yrs and only recently have tried skip. lately though I can't be heard over the big radios and maybe going from a 250 to a 500 watt amp won't make any difference. I run 18' coax to the antenna and 18' between radio and amp with a 1.2-1 match to my predator sw.

I agree with you to a point...The part about 1000w splatter box's is where i disagree tho...Just because a box can do 1000'ws, does not mean it will be a splatter-box...The radio is what makes it a splatter-box... It's just with a 1000w Amp the splatter is more noticeable and will tend to make the radio bleed onto other channels more, than what a 250w Amp would do with the same radio.

Go's back to that ol' saying "Trash-in, Trash-out...Only louder!"

A clean unmolested radio going into a 1000w kicker shouldn't splatter...The splatter starts when people stick these "Peaked-and-Tweaked to the hilt" and over modulated radios inline...

A tricked-out Cobra 29 that has had swing kits, and bigger finals installed, and limiters clipped, will make a 100w Amp splatter just as bad as it would a 1000w Amp...Just might not be as loud a splatter...

Biggest difference in running a 250w Amp vs. a 1000w Amp is going to be satisfying the power to run the larger Amp...You can't expect to be able to run a box like that, on a factory electrical system...

I'd rather run extra RG8X coax than an extended length of #6 power cable...
