Make #### sure that truck has it's ground(s) (more than one!) all making good contact, it could be trying to seek a ground though other switches/ links. That is the first place I would look.

Another thing is his mechanic said that nothing was ever done to the wiring to weather proof it from the factory exposed connections everywhere which im sure is prob a main culprit, smoke filled his cab from a smoldering wire in dash from i guess too thin of gauge used but it was also a splice....from factory

Something doesn't sound right here, ALL of the Freightliner gliders I have seen have all of the harnesses hung and are plug in ready for the motor/drivetrain, the ones I have seen are the same as on a new truck.

IS it possible, that this truck was ordered to have a Cummins in it (hypothetical) and they rewired it for another type/brand of motor? Did he order this glider, or was it something that the dealer had?

    Just curious.

What engine? I'd be looking in what ever plug supplies batter power and key swtich power to the ECM. Sounds like corrosion or chaffed wires shorting the two together. We had a Celect Plus do that once. Right at the ECM, the wires where chaffed and it filled up with green. Too many wires to try and fix, we replace the OEM to ECM harness.

I'd pull the plug at the ECM and measure battery voltage, then see if any voltage is crossing to a pin that it should not be on (like key power with the key off).
