I'd google trucking companies in AZ and start applying. Try food service companies. You'll get a workout throughout your day unloading your trailer yourself.

If you're in Phoenix you should have no problem at all finding work...This is providing you have a good driving record and work ethic. With little experience it may be a little more difficult but you should be able to find something. Have you looked at Craigslist, AZ Repugnant etc etc?? There's plenty in Phoenix.

 

According to your profile you have 0-1 years experience. You can't be that picky. Most trucking companies don't pay ot and the ones that do are very strict on it since it cost them so much money. If you don't have all the endorsements you are already limited. 20 an hour is possible for pulling a tanker but with your lack of experience you will have a hard time getting hired and for good reason. I'm not telling you that your only option is OTR but you need to be more realistic about pay with your experience. Where I'm at drivers make 65 - 83 k a year and are home almost everyday..But to work here you need minimum 3 years experience, clean driving record, and some social skills. Not easy to find in the trucking industry. I would check with the LTL companies in Phoenix such as Fedex Freight, ABF, Bestway etc. They will start you at close to 20 but will limit your ot.

Jobs are there but it's not easy finding a good-paying one. I was laid-off in 2011 and had a heck of a time finding one(in Tucson). That's because they wanted to pay me 12 to 16 an hour. I've got 18 years experience and won't work for that. You're not in that boat.

 

Mind if I ask where your at? If I know a guy who has plenty of experience and his wife and kids want him home more?
