I posted this in another thread but I think this may go along with the fuel prices .....
Co. says no fueling in NYS
Millis Transfer says unless dire need drivers are not to fuel in NYS not even in their terminals ...
Things are really getting tough in NYS -
How long would Wal Mart be in business if they bought stuff at $1.00 from their suppliers and sold it at $0.50 to the public?
Why would anybody in their right mind put a load on their truck they knew was going to lose them money?
From a strictly economic point of view, Owner Operators who understand this fact should pray diesel goes to $6.00 a gallon and freight rates should go down or stay steady. The sooner the O/O's who haul money losing freight go broke, the faster this situation corrects itself.
"Culling the herd" has never been more applicable. -
This is Sad and everyone and every trade out there needs to jump in and protest...Band together and get something down..

Exactly what I have been trying to say! I can't understand why ANYBODY would put a load even if it is a back haul on their truck for less than their operating cost! That is just a dumb business decison to ANYONE who does that. If EVERYONE would stop hauling that cheap frieght the frieght costs would QUICKLY go up. I am with you on the rising fuel prices, the faster they rise the faster the "bottom feeders" fall off which means the faster the freight cost would go back up and we can all start making money. We are not just truck drivers we are Businessmen/women and we need to start making SMART business decisions!

The biggest word in your comment is IF.
That is also the biggest problem when coupled with businesses looking to save money. It equals CHEAP.
There are many people on this forum that have never driven a truck that always side with business or the government. The truck driver is and will continue to be at the mercy of business until they see the light. -
I know my costs to the penny per mile. I do not feel bad for those that have no idea what their costs are and go broke hauling cheap freight, nor will I stand up and fight for the inept. Let the weak go broke, leaves more for us who are businessmen.

Congratulations.
Now consider this.
You cannot compete against a larger company that can negotiate deep discounts on fuel and further reduce rates to drive you out of business. It is possibly a goal of those companies. -
Then you need to offset those costs with other benefits for the customer, service, reliability etc.
J.B. Hunt and Swift can't haul everything.
