I am a recruiter for a flatbed company. This is a very interesting thread to me, since I talk with a lot of drivers from Western Express and other flatbed carriers also. In my experience, my initial information on the job and the company came from the recruiting director. He got his information from operations. What I do is take that information and give it to the driver. As time goes on, drivers I have recruited will talk with me about differences between what I told them and what is happening in the real world of operations. After that, I will ask the question of my recruiting director of why there is a difference. If nothing can be done about it I then change what I tell drivers. Most recruiters do that. It makes our hires much more solid for everyone in the company involved. Some of it depends on the company culture. If the company condones lying then personnel will lie. If the company is honest then recruiters are generally honest with the recruits.
Recruiting is also a two way street. Drivers are not always honest, either. Driving a truck is a difficult, often dangerous job. I applaud drivers for what they do for us and enjoy talking and working with them. That is why I recruit. Have a great day out there.Stile, Gilpin and joseph1135 Thank this. -
Who do you recruit for?

Recruiting is this: a race to the bottom of the BS pile. It really is in a lot of cases in this industry. I've been on both sides of recruiting. The recruiter is there to make it sound like if you come to work for this company, it's all puppies and roses and free ice cream. The person being recruited is there to tell him he's the best candidate for the job, generally leaving A LOT out. When I was "recruited" over here, the message of the recruiter is what made up my mind. "It's a trucking job. There's no difference in many companies except for the color of the trucks. We aren't much different than the next, but we try to keep you rolling". That was in August of 2007 when I saw the writing on the wall at Merit. I always remembered that, and I came back here in March after being gone 11 months.
The other problem recruiters have is the type of people they have to field calls from. Let's be honest. Not every driver is well versed, not every driver is intelligent and not every driver understands everything. Most don't understand anything. I learned that from Troy with his QDC scam. He dumbed it down and used phrases that a could get a simpleton excited. And that's the job of most recruiters. They can only hope that the driver they are bringing on won't be completely retarded and will even show up. And the driver's only hope is that the recruiter isn't too full of #### and the company won't close in a week ( Arrow & New Century).Gilpin Thanks this. -
My husband has an potential job with WE. He has done some recreational drug use in the past but nothing too big of a deal. He's not worried about a urine test at all but concerned about hair folicle testing. Do you know if WE does that? We don't want to blow his whole career over something he did with the guys one night a while back!

Worried about Career, worried about a follicle test and going to Western Express. Racing to the bottom isn't he? Whatever. No follicle testing. Enjoy.

Lovely response. I can tell he'll really enjoy the positive attitudes of the trucking workforce. Thanks for your help.
