So you're mad because you can't follow a company's policy. So it sounds like you need to b a owner operator with his own authority and trailer. That way only rules u follow are the ones u make up.

@mickeyrat68 As I noted before, FMCSA only has guidance/advisory criteria. Meaning it's not a mandate. They state that if a driver has this, they should do that. How ever after Bill H. R. 3095 was passed it stated that they have to consider as well as offer other choices.

    From Landline Magazine May 2014:

    So what is guidance anyway?
That’s a really good question, especially as it is the only thing that actually mentions sleep testing of drivers (those who are already diagnosed, remember).

Read this direct quote from the FMCSA Medical Examiner Handbook closely:

“Regulations/standards are laws and must be followed. Whereas guidelines, such as advisory criteria and medical conference reports are recommendations. While not law, the guidelines are intended as best practices for medical examiners.

“Guidelines have been issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to provide you with additional information and are based on medical literature. If you choose not to follow the guidelines, the reason(s) for the variation should be documented.”

The agency starts off saying the guidance does not have the weight of law behind it. As the explanation goes on, medical examiners are basically told that if they don’t follow the guidance they better provide a reason why.

For some of you it seems your missing the point that you have a company dictating what your legal medical options are when it comes to Sleep Apnea. Something they have no legal right to do.
And the argument about that they have to monitor it falls apart when they dont' ask for a A1C every 3 months. To make sure their diabetic drivers are below the 8.0 level that the FMCSA does mandate.

Like I said before, none of you guys understand what this is like if you don't have one. You don't even know if you're getting a real diagnosis.

    TruckDuo Thanks this.

I remember the girl that wired me up acting so concerned, as if I was lucky not to die during the night. She strongly "suggested" I get the machine. Like she didn't know what my options were, lol.

I have been with SNI since 2011, left twice but have been back since Jan 13'. I have been asked the sleep questions before but you just say No to all the question:

Do you have trouble seeping? NO
Do you wake up at night? No
Do you ever notice you stopped breathing at night? No
    and soon, and so on.....

I do admit they like to get drivers on the Sleep Machine but in all actuality it is a good thing for you IF YOU HAVE SLEEP APNEA. I had a personal friend die from it.

I do disagree MiodnightFox with you for putting SNI in the "Bad Trucking Company" section but that is your opinion. A I can see you are a newb to trucking, I can tell you SNI is a great Co. to drive for. Not the highest paying but its a great Co. and I can tell you from experience after mistakes of looking for greener grass more than a few times....

A few other drivers at SNI got the machine and like it. They say they have more energy.

Other things that WILL make SNI start asking you about Sleep Questions is if you are always late on loads. If you use the excuse "I overslept" most but not all DBL's will start asking you too. So..... Get proper sleep, No staying out drinking all night...lol Watch a movie and go to bed.

This was just strike 3 with the company. The first was telling me that I was going to be hired on at the pay rate of $0.37 a mile. Even sent me an e-mail to confirm that. Then once I started to drive solo my pay was dropped to $0.32 for no other reason but the poor excuse that "Different departments have different pay." Now one of their "core values" was "Integrity In Every Action. We do what we say. ..." If that really was the case, my pay would have remained at the $0.37 rate.

Then there was piss poor Century class truck I was forced to drive while my Columbia was being worked on. Which had no bunk heater. I tell you it's quite lovely to wake up to your truck being around 35 degrees, inside! So glad I packed those heavy blankets and sleeping bag.

Your pay issue I have no comment on other than I have never heard anyone have that problem. And the truck... well, I think I got 3 differnet Century Trucks before I got my new truck with 7 miles on it. Almost all the new drivers get the older trucks. Why? Because newer drivers are still learning how to drive them. so SNI, is not going to give out brand new trucks to a guy that's been only driving a few weeks or a couple months. If a new guy gets one then hey, He has an awesome DBL and it was just his luck day.

And yeah, I Agree that having no bunk heater sucks. If it was winter you could have asked for a motel room until it was fixed. Me? its happend to me before. We are not suppose to but I used a plug in heater so I would not freeze. You should try a Dedicated account with SNI... There is a big difference.

With you being new, if you get onto a account that is salary you will make I think it is $169 a day. and dedicated accounts have newer trucks....lol

Why not just hook up to an oxygen tank? Wouldn't that be better than room air?
