Well... today sure has been a learning experience for me. First oversize load. Was rather enjoying the entire process. Had to think a bit. Nice change of pace. I learned that if you are in doubt even a little, scale your load. This load was over length, hanging over the end of the deck about 23ft, but the weight was supposed to be legal. Since this was the 9th identical load, I made the mistake of assuming that everything was pretty well figured out by now and they knew exactly what was needed. Well, as I am now sitting in the scale house lot on 80 in Illinois, I know that's not true. Over on the spread by 1460lbs. The officer was nice and only gave me a warning, but I am stuck here for the night as they can't rearrange the load and they can't get me a weight permit tonight.

I did learn good things the not hard way today though. I learned this morning that I got a new job local job in their hot box fleet. I'll be hauling molten ingots of steel to the plant very close to home. Monday - Friday, hourly with time and a half after 40hours, home every night. (And every one of these are permitted for weight, so I don't have to worry about that) gave my notice tonight. Life after roehl thread. Here I come.
