Oh I agree 100%..swinging doors and drop and hook will soften you up big time.

But not getting something for delay is hard to take.
When hours turn into days and believe me it will happen..you will think about it.

But hey..the river usually keeps you rolling.
You guys out west do well..not knocking it just saying be prepared.

As for the surge..you'll get beat to hell depending on the amount loaded.
If the product doesn't need room for expansion..they'll load you up tight..then not any real surge.

It's those partial loads that sneak up on you..but you get use to it.

Driving a smoothbore will make you a better driver (IMO).
You'll loose the bad habits you learned pulling other types of freight.

Yeah man I am sure I will get detained somewhere. I am out of winterhaven, fl been running all dairy. Mainly running the Midwest but got a load to PA and then a short run that pays % to Walton Ny.
I pulled a smooth bore hauling chemicals for 8 years and still sometimes man the surge will get me good.

I am unloading right now at Kraft in Walton Ny. When I am empty I am deadheading 318 miles to Strasburg Va to pick up a load of condensed milk going to Decatur Al 647 miles.
Then heading home to Mobile Al. I am taking a couple days off.

I have heard that a long wait time can happen but doesn't happen too often. The company doesn't want their truck sitting anymore than you want to be sitting.

Only complaint I have so far is I didn't bring a fly swatter to the dairy lol. Might have to hang a few glue strips off the headliner.
