This UPS driver doesn't have a sleeper, his schedule is such he has x number of miles to do in Y period of time, all within "legal" regulations. The accident occurred at 04:00, when the body of the average individual is screaming SLEEP. He has all the prerequisite enforcement technology in the truck and at his operations dept. I could not do his job, no matter how large the paycheck or how great the union benefits. This has been going on since Roman times when a chariot suddenly veered off the Appian Way for no particular reason, and some gladiator had to tell his general that he busted up his wheels...
I just hope it dawns on the powers that be that all the technology or enforcement in the world is not going to change basic human nature or physiology. I am not holding my breath.

Yes that's very true noone understands the industry except the drivers and the ones that use to drive. Not even trucking companies understand unless ex drivers are working for that company. But a lot of whats happening in Washington has zero common since and they have to know this.Even a kid in highschool I bet could run FMCSA better then what we're seeing.

Destroying the industry is a matter of opinion. The ATA and their supporters are sure to believe they are saving it.

Most drivers anymore don't understand the industry either. The entitlement attitude out here proves that. The companies do understand the industry. Which is why the megas want it changed.

I do. But, we have no one representing the individual driver.

You could go on a limb and say OOIDA. But not so much anymore.

I dealt with them in 1999. Sent request and questions and the only responses I ever got were requests to renew membership in the wrong name. It was very disappointing.
