DO not lie and do not worry about this. Apply, putting the company on the app, tell them what happened and don't worry.
Bad too be too honest?

I'm not a driver, but I'm an employer who has hired hundreds of people. With all due respect, you need to change the way you present this situation.
Try this:
"It was totally my mistake. I take full responsibility and have learned from my mistake. I just need someone to give me a chance." Then tell them the story.
That would get my attention. Someone making excuses hasn't learned from their mistake, and I would move along to the next candidate. I'm not trying to be hard on you - just letting you know how an employer hears things.
All the best to you.Wooly Rhino, OPUS 7 and 123456 Thank this. -
I agree with bergy. Your career is hardly over, it's not like you killed someone. It probably will take a face-to-face meeting with the next company as the personal touch is always better than the faceless email. Just for the heck of it, I'd get a road atlas, and have a good idea where you are going, without relying on GPS( or whatever you were using) totally. Might have prevented this whole thing in the 1st place.
bergy Thanks this. -
I think Bergy even knew I was getting ready to jump in on this.
First, by law, employers are required to check with former trucking companies you worked for. That is federal law. It is a crime to knowingly cause someone to violate a Federal Law. If you were lying about working at Taco Bell, no one would care but you open yourself up to all kinds of charges by lying. Lets say you have another "minor" accident. Like running over a fat gal on a hoverround. She sues. You lied on your app. Your insurance isn't any good and you go to prison. Do you think anyone of us will shed a tear? No because you should man up and face the fact that what you did was not a minor accident.
You screwed the pooch. You had an "accident while backing." This is the single most common accident. They are always preventable. You had it because you were too lazy to get out and look. And for some reason you try to blame it on Qualcomm. No, you are the professional. You made a mistake. You won't make that mistake again. You are a better driver today because of your mistakes.
That is unless every time the Qualcomm goes out you are going to hit something.
In summary, lie about an accident, go to prison. Be a man and apply for other jobs. You will catch on somewhere. Look around, many companies say No More Then 3 Preventable Accidents In The Past 3 Years. You lie one time about an accident and get caught, you are done.bergy and 900,000-tons-of-steel Thank this. -
Tell them you had a backing accident in New Jersey. -
Thanks guys lol I get it though and this again has started a big misconception of me.
But I've been nothing but totally honest up to this point and my question is have I been "too honest". I'm not the lying or exaggerating type of guy. I'm speaking in the sense like this thread as a good example...
People tend to take things and run with it and before you know it one thing turns into this whole made up misconception, story that has been taken out of context and exaggerated.
I obviously know its my mistake for the accident and have taken responsibility for it. So far in this career field I have gotten nothing but dishonesty from recruiters, DM's, etc.
Would I have been in the situation I was if my navigation system hadn't gone out on me in a bad place in new jersey? Probably not... but I could of done numerous things during the time I did not think I could, such as call police for directions, even an escort from the police as well (wish I had known then).
And I didn't want to mention the accident because of this reason exactly, I've already talked about this situation in a thread and was beaten to death. I have taken responsibility for it thank you very much and I have been nothing but upfront to people. -

I don't think he was blaming the QC as much as explaining to us all the things that lead up to the accident. Info is good.
