Hey all! Short history - Drover 7 months with Maverick which I loved but I found a local job so I left them (on good terms). Local job isn't what I was told it was so I am looking to go back out again. Maverick would take me back but I only got home every other weekend with them. With a wife and two kids, thats difficult and Id like to find something that I am home "most" weekends.

Narrowed it down to two companies, Averitt and McElroy. I applied to some others like EPES but never heard back.

Averitt said I would be home 90% of weekends. Id start at 40CPM and average around 2000 miles per week. The downsides are that I couldn't bring the truck home which means Id have to park it in Atlanta (1.5 hour drive away from home). Automatics which I do like, but I notice that my shifting is getting rusty fast. Dry van which doesn't REALLY matter to me but I did have a little more self respect in knowing that I was trained in load securement and was responsible for more than just holding a steering wheel.

Mcelroy guarantees weekend hometime (or they pay you 100 bucks) but Id imagine they really do get you home so they dont have to pay. Starting pay would be 43cpm for me. Unknown average miles. Downside is that you dont get tarp pay which kinda sucks. But the trucks do seem nice, I could take the truck home, and they are not automatics. Flatbed so I would be out in the elements and dirt/grime/rain/sand/dust lol you name it. Liked flatbed but man it gets nasty at times and if you cant get to a shower.....ugh.....

So Im kind of at a toss up between the two companies. Any driver advice that has experienced either of these companies? Id like to know the pros and cons in your experience working for either Averitt or McElroy.

Don't know about McElroy but Averitt is a pretty good company. I was thinking they had a terminal in Chattanooga? Maybe it was just an agent terminal or something? I liked them because most of their terminals have truck washes and good driver amenities. Their benefits were pretty good as well.
