hello everyone! i hope to be a driver soon, and after a TON of reserch, i have narrowed it down to 3... PAM, Swift, and Schneider. which one is the best in your opinion. i have no CDL yet but depending on the outcome, i either can get paid company training (which im kind of Leary doing because i heard they rush you through and if you screw up, you go home and then are responsible paying for) or i can go to TDDS (a truck driver training course whick i need $5500 to pay for, but has awsome job placement) however im waiting to see about financing... as a 22, almost 23yr old living in youngstown ohio, i was wondering on how to go about this. im a decently quick learner, and after 4 years mamaging mcdonalds, its time for a change. now of the 3 companies i listed, im leaning twards PAM, but one of my friends who workd for swift said they are an awsome company to start out for. and schneider, they just appeal to me for some reason.. just looking for a honest and unbiast opionin and advise on my sitiation....all replies appreciated thanks everyone

Just do a search on this website for those companies. There's already A TON of information on those companies. But in short, I think I've read one good thing about Swift on this entire website. Haha. It seems to be an almost unanimous opinion that Schneider is a great company to start with. They have the industries best training, and it will also open up doors for you into other companies because of their prestigious training. I haven't read much about PAM, but the little I have I recall not being so great.

Don't know why SWIFT would be in anybody's top 3. Top 100 for that matter. There are ALOT of better companies out there for newbs.

    Schneider
    Central Refrigerated
    Pam
    Prime
    CFI/Conway
    Crete
    Marten
    Interstate Distributors
    Roehl
    Celadon
    KLLM
    USA
    US Xpress...

all of those are considered better than Swift from the info I've gathered on this site, and even some of those are considered pretty bad.

The PAM deal is an ok deal as far as the training goes. With your location you can probably go to the Indianapolis school. It is an accelerated program (like most all the rest) BUT you get 4 chances to attempt the state testing before you have to pay for the testing yourself. The instructors will not send you to state or even test you on the C-1 testing until you and THEY both agree you are ready for it. They have had people fail it multiple times but most of the ones doing that seem to not be able to handle the pressure of the test being "real". The instructors personalities vary like everyone elses in life. They are decent about switching people around if the personalities or teaching styles conflict with your ability to learn/perform.

Don't get me wrong, they prepare you very well for the State CDL exam but they fully expect your real training to come from whomever trains you after you complete the school.

Of the three on your list I would choose Schneider first, Pam second, and Swift last after every other carrier out there. Seriously though Schneider is big and considering the size, a much better choice overall. You may want to consider Roehl also. They seem to have a decent rep for newbies as well.
