I'm a wannabe truck driver about to start CDL school and have spent a lot of time reasearching different companies. It seems like Prime would be great to start with because of good pay and equipment and they seem to have a lot of business up here. However, I really don't want to spend 3 to 4 weeks at a time away from my family if I don't have to because I have already been away so much (21 years in the Military). Is it possible for a new driver to get on the Lewiston walmart account and if so what type of schedule do they have? I live within 10 miles of the Lewiston Walmart DC.

It's the same deal on home time as the OTR company folks have... 3 weeks between hometime visits, 4 days at home not including arrival and depart days at one time. Now... the store loads are all out and back to the DC, some require that you take a rest break on the road; however living up there in the Lewiston area would allow you take your breaks at home in many cases. You shouldn't have a problem getting on up there... the OTR folks are required to take a store load after delivering to the DC, which means they really don't have enough local folks to do everything they need done up there. Just let your recruiter know that you're interested in running out of the DC after training.

There are 42 perishables DCs, Lewiston MAine is the lowest volume. Even in the summer they do minimal volume, in winter less than minimal
