Next to diabetes, high blood pressure has to be one of the biggest health problems as we age. BP is a weird thing, you can take your BP 5 times, and get 5 different readings. I'm 59, 195lbs. high BP in my family, never even thought about it until a few years ago, had it checked at a physical ( don't drive anymore, so it had been a while), it was like 180/ 110. Whoa. ( BTW, I'm a total salt freak, I put salt on potato chips, kidding, but do love salt), doc put me on amlidopine and benazipril, and now at least it's borderline for DOT. Also, my mom, who was a nurse, said I have what's called, "white coat syndrome", where , when I walk into a dr. office, I get anxious and can feel myself getting tense. When I go now, dr. takes it twice, and the 2nd time, it's always 10 #'s less on both.(BTW, never have a problem with " little 'semi' retired")(yet):biggrin_2554:

A healthy life style is the best medicine. But genetics play a big part of it too.

I have a healthy lifestyle, but still have BP problems if I don't take Diovan. I exercise about 4 times a week.

I think alot of hb comes from everyday stress and the world we live in. Do you have a hobby China? For me plummeting down the side of a frozen mt. like my hair is on fire is relaxing. When I get home my bp is 100/60 go figure.

I am on BP meds when I first got my DOT physical I had to switch meds due to what I was on being on the banned med list. Tell your primary doctor that you are going to drive truck and ask if your med is DOT approved or even call a pharmacy they should know. It took 30 days I to get out of my system and pass the drug screen and I started driving.

    Good Luck,

bergy and Wild Murphy Thank this.

Cagetrucker thanks for that info. Is there a banned med list printed somewhere?
