ABF Freight just called me to set up for an interview today

No DUI or felony, you still got a chance.

 

Be honest with them , if..... they ask...as far as going to FFE...your choice , BUT , if it were me I'd wait and give ABF the 1st nod...FFE ins't going anywhere , and the school will accept you in a class at a later date I'm sure...worth the gamble in the long run , but that's my opinion...good luck with which way "you" decide to go.

Ask the LTL forum your questions.

LTL work is good pay and hard work, but not too hard for the pay. Even their dock workers have a better check than FFE drivers. Touch base with FFE. Tell them about the ABF opportunity, and that you still have them in mind. Be nice.
If ABF falls through though, I would apply for a dock position at other LTLs. With a CDL in your pocket, you are a good candidate for in-house driver training. They will first work your butt off on the dock, then see if you can back trailers in doors with the Hosler, then they will send you to road school, then in the city with a P&D driver trainer. Just be on time, act professional, and be safe.

 

So it's been 3 weeks since the day I was interviewed. They just got done with the reference calls and I'm up for the next stage of the process. Does anyone know what is the next stage and how much long do I need to wait? Thanks!

 

More than likely a background check. Usually a week or so maybe a bit longer. If you have the opportunity go by and talk to the HR person ftf, just to let them know that you are really interested in working for them. Might be the best move you could make. Sometimes a little ftf time makes all the difference in the world. GoodLuck , keep us posted.

 

A friend of mine started at ABF in 2006 then left in 2010 after being laid off for 1.5 years. In 2012 he decided to come back and reapplied. Hireright.com found that he had worked 3 days as a casual for Yellow in June of 2003. He had forgotten about his 3 days at Yellow and never put it down on the application either time. In 2006 they never found these 3 days of work but in 2012 they did. Hireright.com also found out that he had a DUI in 1987 that had been set aside which he was not putting on any application because he had obtained a driving records from the states that he had lived in and it was not showing on his record since it was set aside. 19 years of no accidents or tickets and ABF would not rehire him.

 

*update* so today I finally received an email from ABF's TM stating that I am approved for hire pending physical and drug screen (which I know that I will pass, so no worry there). My only concern now is that I will be stuck with FFE tuition of $3600. Because I went there for the refresher course and I was about 3 weeks in with my trainer while I was waiting for ABF HR to run their background. Does anyone know if FFE will make me pay a lump sum or installments for this fee? Thanks!

 

No you probably will be billed in a 3 year installment plan. Shouldn't be to bad. Might even double check with the folks in HR, but I truly doubt if they believe they will get that much out of anybody. They might even take your last check to apply to the balance. Congrats on the new gig.
