Am I destined for failure

How long was the longest have you been away from home before?

 

The feeling of being homesick is natural. Some drivers learn to manage it while others don't. Being home on weekends is an advantage many drivers don't have. Nobody can tell you whether or not you're cut out for trucking. It's something you will learn in the first few weeks. Best of luck to you!

 

You cant be in two places at once , especially in an emotional sense , and especially when operating a dangerous truck .

I'd get around this by envisioning a time when my girl and the critter will be able to ride along with me .

The current situation is just a stepping stone

Don't look at the negative , its dark and hopeless

Look to the bigger picture ,

Were all is one.

Man , Woman , and dog with its head out the window and in the wind ...... getting another load down the road .

 

You never get over leaving your dog behind.

 

I went to college away from home. Was homesick month and a half and then it was gone. Got into trucking had to leave wife for 8 weeks, right after being gone 5 weeks at school. It was hard. Not so much homesick as missed her so much and like 3rd day out she was served court papers for our foreclosure.

 

Ain't that the truth. I'm divorced so I definitely don't miss the swamp thing. My daughter is grown up with kids of her own and I only see them once or twice a year. The dog on the other hand...my shepherd traveled with me all the time and she died last Labor Day. I have another dog now, but I switched companies and had to train again so she had to stay with a relative during that time. That made me feel real bad.

I wasn't cut out for OTR but I toughed it out for a year to get enough experience to land a decent paying local job.
Now I'm home in my own bed every night and life is pretty good so just remember this is an industry with an almost unlimited variety of different jobs.
There's no need for failure if you can learn to operate the equipment safely and can tough out some time doing a job you don't much care for until the right fit comes along which of course you'll have to seek out.
It took me just 1 year to get into a day-cab and home daily, then another year to get dayshift and one more year to get weekends off.
So just 3 years from school I have a good job that I like pretty well working days with weekends off,3 years goes by pretty fast.

 

Out of curiosity, what company are you going with?

 

Seriously! This company the pay is good but have a strict no pet policy. After I get a mortgage. I'm seriously contemplating taking my arse to a company that will allow my little 20lb beagle!


not to mention the dog would give me more exercise because I would walk her. Some one always ruins it for everyone else.
