How am I gonna know where to start driving, and my new hobo lifestyle??Scoots and truckinmike1984 Thank this. -
The thing that gets my goat.ded everyone want to believe and buy into bs... I work for werner.. and my experience with werner is so different from what is expressed here on the forum... there are 8 drivers on the account I am on now... I am the greenist driver with only a year of driving experience.. been with werner for 6 months now and I am happy here... I bring home a good paycheck each week.. I dont have problems with dispatch or any other department.. I am much happier here at werner then I was at the small family owned company I was with before werner....
The guy who trained me on this account jas been with werner for 3 years... he took a break and went to TMC but came back to werner.. the other drivers on this account also have a couple years or more with werner...
The thiing is, with werner... to be successful and make money.. it is simple... dont hit anything.. dont have accidents. ? Deliver on time... that is pretty much all it takes.. and yet so many drivers just cant do it...
If you do your pre trips.. you truck should stay running.. werner does a full service and go over the grucks every 60 days... so as a driver, you should be able to keep it running for 60 days... also, if yoh need service on something.. if you are a good driver yoh will get in and done pretty quick.. and if not.. they will put you in a loaner truck...
So what you hear a lot of drivers complain about here... is because they are not the top drivers, theh are. Ot even average drivers... they are the below average drivers.. maybe theh have hit things, delivered late or shown that they canttake care of the equipment or their responsibilities and so they get pushed backed in the line. And have to wait.. for service, for good loads... whatever...
No, drivers are not treated equally... they are treated. Based on their performance... -
Im glad Werner is working out for you.But based on your performance is very false.Try OTR and see if you still like Werner.I was an excellent driver my dispatcher tried everything to get me not to quit. But the miles wasn't there.I was OTR and was out in the east coast more then anywhere elseYou're on a dedicated account and get home every weekend do you not?OTR don't get that luxury and don't know from one day to the next how many miles they'll get.Load planners likes to swap and split loadsSo really performance has nothing to do with how many miles you'll get.I blame the low miles more on load planners then dispatch..
jbatmick and truckinmike1984 Thank this. -
and i would also have to disagree with you on some points, I had good dispatchers, I made my loads on time and I didn't hit anything yet Werner kept me in the poor house. Sure for some that are just starting out you are right Werner is great to get your experience and move on.
And I am far from being your well below, or average driver, I was and am one of the best trainers Werner seen and my student is proof of that. Oh think I mention this before but he drives new truck, makes on avg now about .40 CPM, has done 500k miles in three years, and this week getting his picture put up with those that have 1m miles. So, not everyone everyone you speak of are low life's that couldn't hack it. My main beef is how they lied to me, and everyone wants to blame someone else in order to handle issues.
go talk to some of those guys you work with now, I am sure they are not even clearing that much per mile even some of the 1m milers I don't think pulling down that kinda money. I'm sure you will read about him in the Werner newsletter, or on the qc.pattyj Thanks this. -
I didnt go with OTR... from what I have been able to gleem from various resourses... I knew the money is not in OTR u less you are teaming or training... neither of which I had or have any interest in doing... for solo OTR the money sucks.... drivers need to get on a dedicated account...
But, that is part of my point... as a driver you need to figure out where the moneh is... for some, theydont want to be on a dedicated.... when I first signed up for the account I am on now there was a waiting list... the driver that I replaced. ? He went back OTR, knowing he was taking a cut in pay... cause he didnt like the hustle and work, untarping loads... to make the most money on this account.. you need to do two loads a days... some days it is easy, either load is a tarped load.. but some days are tough, with both loads being tarped..
I am always done with my stuff... unsgarped and untarped asap, so they can start to unload me... then I am done wrapping my straps and folding my tarp before they are done unloading me... Friday morning they had thre guys unloading me.. so it was a tie... but, I got rollin and back to the yard to grab my 2nd load...
We have a driver that if his first load is a tarped load, then be doesnt take a 2nd load.. but that onlh burts his pay check...
I wont lie... I work hard and it is hard work... but, they keep me running and I get a good paycheck every week... yeah, I have been very sore and tired at the end of some days... but, that is the nature of flatbed...
That is why flatbed pays more than van... and more the reefer.. when my reefer was being unloaded I was in my bunk chillin, whatchin tv or whatever... now with flatbed, I am am wrapping straps and folding tarps while I am being unloaded... but, I am making more cpm and more accessorie pay... so to me.. it is worth it... -
Hey Opus.
Glad your watching out for the HoBo's .Was that you at Loves passing out shampoo in plastic trash bags..?
Ive been training this week I have two more left .Im home every night and Im driving truck. So I beat the odds of joining the otroad army/Hobo life style.
883bed....rider , I was whining .They said " when you get to Texas we will reimburse you your gas" They didnt say we will give it back to you in your check two weeks from now. "when you get to Texas, is alot sooner, then in your pay check, 2 weeks from now. GET IT ? There is a big difference.
Those blank checks they give you is for advancement of your pay ..again completely different from "YOU WILL GET REIMBURST WHEN YOU GET TO TEXAS! " This horse is beyond dead
The other point is I was a trainee not a trucker . I was in training.....no one in contact with you you call you get "oh call back he is not working today and nobody else know what is going on with your situation. A trainee ...just sitting in a hotel room buying my self lunch and dinner night after night not knowing when you will be driving again to FINISH the training. Then half a week later truck breaks again and thursday you call your SDM he says he will get back to me .not until...MONDAY at 5pm I get a call , sit tight your SDM will be in tomorrow .
That is 5 days plus Tomorrow is day 6. knowing the truck would not even be looked at till wednesday. Im not a driver YET Im a trainee.
IT IS NOT OK TO JUST LEAVE SOMEONE TRAINING ( not trucking) !!! sitting in a hotel, two weeks, get him/her into a working truck after 3 days, of down time...... not two weeks.!
THE SECRET ... When you go for a CDL A license. No one says ..."you know you can not get a driving job after you get out of school and get your license from the DMV . You have to join the OTRoad Army/Hobo Life style for a year , Before you can get ANY JOB WHAT SO EVER ,with that CDL A you paid alot for. And just about every driving job out there is low pay to start.Oh and you will have to work endless hours either way.
Im working 7 days a week at this job ,thats just the way it is .Im home every night so I JUST DONT CARE about 7 day weeks. I never shy from work.
Hobo out .....
