I'm just overwhelmed by the offers of help that we have received! Not only from here on this forum but also via a FB group we are on... Who said truck drivers don't look out after their own?

I don't know... Maybe we should have taken the $1/mile 44K load that would have taken us south (some weren't even paying that!!), but the fuel and wear/tear on the truck would be more than that... Where heading south MT sure costs fuel, but not as much...

We we will know for next time... Now don't get me wrong, there were 'some' loads, but they were going east... We NEEDED to head south (Grand-daughter's introduction party)... We still count this trip as a positive though. It was a good shakedown cruise and we are learning the processes and such that we will need to do. We will be heading back out again on Monday the 7th, bright eyed and bushy tailed... AND with our coffee cups this time :) (forgot them this time :biggrin_2554:)

Make sure on Monday you look at freight capacities before you book a load. You need to be booking a load into a tight capacity market. Coming out of CA you may need to do this in stages. Always be leery of high rates if you have not researched outbound from that destination. This is what you see in Seattle and from there (Bay Area) Denver will look appealing. Don't take the bait. Denver is a black hole. We got $2.00 a mile from Sacramento last week into the Southeast where rates are awesome. Lots of $3.00 a mile loads posted into crappy freight areas. This will get easier with some experience and as your authority matures. Just don't panic. The later in the day you book, the more the broker NEEDS to move the freight. Don't be afraid to quote high, if they say no you can come down a bit or stick to your guns and tell them to please call you if they end up being able to move towards you in rates. Going to be tough to be too picky until you have access to more brokers so it is a balancing act.

Here is the reason we had to get home for the 4th... Family!!

We we will be heading back out on the 7th (Monday) and will be out for a while this time... The shakedown cruise taught us a few things... If they offer you mega $$, there might be <____> heading out of there, so look carefully! Post our truck early, not just when it's empty.

There were also a few contacts that were given to us, so we will be following up with those. Now hopefully we will get an answer to our posting :D

And the new baby is one very good reason to be home. One of ours we got to see every 3mo when we went home, so much was lost with his babyhood. Hope you get to spoil this one rotten.

Well another lesson... Post truck on the Thursday/Friday BEFORE the weekend... Should have remembered, brokers tend to not work on the weekend - SMH! The truck and us will be ready on Monday though... We've also read/heard that this Monday might be a bit slow because it's the first part of a fiscal quarter... So we will see what we get :)

Paula, based on everything I am seeing, Monday is going to be a huge day. Rates are strong and most places are short on trucks. Have fun tomorrow. Remember, you can call us if you have questions.
