Great questions! I'm not sure if they will give you a tour or not, but you may be able to get some information regarding your other questions. They pay 100% of your schooling at SAGE with is located at Ivy Tech in Muncie. It's a great program.

 

I too would like to know more about the hiring process, what is the background check and physical exam like ? What should I be prepared fore ? After I graduate Sage, how long will Carter's training be, before I'm on my own and finally, what options will I have as far as hometime and route choices ? Thanks.

 

Background - from my understanding no dui's or felony's. i think everything else is a case by case. physical exam? download the paperwork from the state of indiana. after sage you do 1 week of orientation and 4 weeks of training with another driver. 2 weeks with a driver on a dedicated route and 2 weeks with a driver that runs the board. carter express is HUGE on hometime so they will have you home quite a bit from my understanding. and there is no forced dispatch.

Thanks for the info. No I haven't applied yet. I'm still in Northern Calif. for another 14 months, so it seems kinda premature to start that ball rolling this soon, but that is our plan. Hopefully we will have our house sold here and be relocated to Anderson by then, or sooner. Right now the economy is good and my 401k is smoking good, so I'm riding it out til then. I really appreciate all the detailed info. and willingness to share with future Carter drivers.

 

I also would like to know if Carter hauls HazMat, or runs up to Canada ? I know they are in Mich.

 

they dont haul much hazmat at all, but you must have that endorsement. and canada - i'm not sure. i've heard there are a few runs that go up there.

 

Cool, I have all of my endorsements. I hear Canada can be hard to get into if you have any kind of criminal past. I know a guy that was not allowed over the border because he had a 25 year old drunk and disorderly. Seems kinda harsh. That was the reason I asked about the background check. How far does Carter go back ? The guy wishes he would have hired a private investigator to run his background, but after all it was so long ago ??? I would hate that kind of surprise.

 

i'm not sure how far back they go. from what i was told, just be brutally honest. they found a ticket from my brother when he was 17 - like 30 years ago. just be honest. they will let you know if you qualify or not. if you call, tell them i referred you - chris stone - i'm still at SAGE

 

Thanks buddy, how are you supposed to remember every single thing ? I have a 10 yr. MVR printout and it is clean. I guess when I fill out the app. I will just say "to the best of my knowledge" as far as any tickets or such ??? I am an honest person, but don't want to look like I falsified the app. due to so many years past. What happened to your brother when they found that old ### ticket ??
