As a non-smoker, I have been approached several times to get a card. In many areas, people are restricted on how many plants they can grow. The scheme is to get non-smokers to get a card and grow their allotment. Now the smoking acquaintance/friend/business partner, or whatever has another supply of weed. er.. medicine. -
In regards to the residual effects of MJ. Yesterday my back was in spasms, and I had the beginnings of a migraine, so I baked a batch of MJ brownies. I ate a brownie and went to bed. Never felt anything, but slept for a solid 8 and woke up incredibly well rested. When I say well rested, I mean no need for coffee, and I felt like doing something physically active. Man I slept well and awoke feeling like a million bucks. So those that talk about residual effects clearly have no idea what they are talking about. FYI - I eat it instead of smoking it for both health reasons, and I don't have any desire to feel high.
My point is also that there are very legitimate uses for Medical Cannabis, outside of those wanting to get high. Talk with any cancer patient who uses it - the term "life saver" will undoubtedly be part of their response. Again, to be clear, my view is a CDL holder should lose their license permanently for any form of impairment while driving. -
If you have a medical prescription for pot you can't get a DOT med card (http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/faq/can-driver-be-qualified-if-taking-prescribed-medical-marijuana). You also can't be given a "negative" if you test positive for cannabis in a random (http://www.dot.gov/odapc/medical-marijuana-notice).

It's from the horse's mouth, argue semantics with someone else. You are required to sign a legal document when being examined. If you don't disclose your prescription, you are committing an illegal act. If you tell the examiner you have a prescription, they won't certify you. Also, you should know that there is no drug test for your medical card, that is incorrect information. You will be asked to do a pre-employment drug screen and then participate in randoms, but no test is part of the DOT exam.

There is a urine test. They check for sugar via the kidneys' functions and protein levels. Several drugs can/do skewer these levels resulting in additional testing which can/does reveal drugs but you are correct it is not a drug test, initially.
If I recall correctly the question is either, "Are you taking any prescription medication?" or it indicates "Please list any prescription medication" but not "Do you have a prescription?" -
Hi 900K, well, being the negative joe that I am, and a tad paranoid, who's to say your urine test can't be checked once they have it. I know, all the people who scream, "it can't happen here", will say no way, but I don't trust them any farther than I could throw them. Many years ago I tested "false positive" because I indeed tried to beat the system. They told me in 5 years that would be off my record, but you couldn't convince me otherwise, it isn't tucked away somewhere in a data base. I have a friend who failed a random, went through the whole schpiel, made it right, they said in 5 years, it would be out of the system, 81/2 years later, the MRO contacted him to "review" his file.
I'm with you. I don't trust them, either."semi" retired Thanks this. -
It would be great if people knew their limits and respected them. We wouldn't need as many laws.
I have no problem with a driver having a beer or a joint while taking his or her 10, as long as they are safe to drive when they start driving.
Personally I have never tried pot. It's easy for me to say I don't have a problem with it, and I don't care if you smoke it, but if my daughter tried it I would be very upset. I don't have a quantifiable reason for it, but all the same I wouldn't want her to do it.900,000-tons-of-steel and bergy Thank this.
