Attorney to trucker and engineer to trucker. We're just two of many who have left white collar professions to become truck drivers. From my research, I know that there is much more diversity, on many different levels, in the ranks of truck drivers than most people would think.

You make some very valid points 883 BedomRider. I wholeheartedly agree that "you can't just go by CPM." And if you read my post #38 in this thread, you'll see that I considered many, many other things in addition to CPM when making my decision on which company to work for.

I think that is one of the things that is the most confusing and deceptive in this industry... with any other job I had I was making either an hourly rate or getting a salary... so, it was always clear and easy to k ow what I was actually making... but, with trucking it gets complicated...

I was just talking to one of our drivers wbo got offered a job that paid .05CPM more than the 36 CPM that we make... so the .41CPM sounded great.. he would be running the exact same loads... well, were were talking and figuring it out.. the deal breaker... no safety pay... we get $250 a week safety pay.. providi g we dont hit anything or such... so, without that, he wojld have to run and extra 5000 miles a week to make up for it.. that aint gonna happen..
Now, if he was a driver that didnt get the safety pay each week.. then yeah, it wojld of been a good offer.. but, he is a good driver and gets the $250 safety pay each week...

I am glad you took the time to sort througn the confusion and look at the whole picture before maki g your decision... that is an important quality and skill to have in this Industry...

In all honesty the basic necessities (the ability to idle or have a reliable alternative, the ability to be home with at-least some degree of regularity, and the ability to have access to food that is not 100% battered and deep fried) is not asking too much. Anyone with experience in this industry, deserves at-least the basic necessities. I started out in a truck that only idled with opti-idle, I was the ####### running my batteries down to 12v every night so my cooler could be stocked with somewhat okay'ish food, I was the #### that took the job at .30 cpm just to get my foot in the door, and I'm the douche that had to run the night loads and the bull loads when drivers with loads going to the boroughs that magically ran out of hours before they hit the NY line.

I bit my lip, held my tongue, and punched a sleeper wall in that first 365 just to get a foothold in this profession. It's what I had to do. But I'd still avoid schineder like the god ###### plague regardless of much or little experience I had.

Fielded a couple job offers from them earlier last month, and they were all pretty laughable. I ####-chat with the old timers on 19, and they tell me what a good company Schineder is. I think that should be changed to "was." Or maybe they're a better option for an Owner-op. I really don't know. I really don't care.

I have been a truck driver otr for almost 2 months now. Very short amount of time but i have still been to most major cities, truck stops and regions of the country. My overall experience is that if truckers have one thing in common it is that they are ### holes. Maybe the ### holes of various professions flock to trucking. Maybe i just need more experience to get an informed opinion. I hope that is the case, but i dont think it is.

When I read the title of this thread I was sure I was going to see a long list of complaints. 4 is all you could come up with? That is hardly a lot. FTR when I drove for Schneider my truck would do a whopping 67 mph.

We pull in into rest stops and truckstops cause we have time to as were not stuck at 60mph after half a day were already ahead by one hour.

GenericUserName, Every profession/trade has its share of jerks. However, the vast majority of truckers I have met and talked with over the past year have been nice, friendly people.

    Simple. ..

Go out and buy a truck, trailer, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, taxes, get customers, and you can run your company however you like.

So many people have never done any of that successfully but want to complain about the rules.

    streetglider and speedbuggy84410 Thank this.
