Reefer trailers, new Volvo trucks. Based in the Midwest. Mixture of direct shippers and brokered backhauls. Been at it 12 years now, its all a matter of knowing your lanes and covering your butt on the outbound runs, especially when going to questionable markets for reloads.

Its a no brainer id rather buy outright a old truck. For example tnt has a listing on a 91 379 pete standup bunk 3406b with a 15over for 13,700 thats a money maker and you could be rolling coal also hehe old school!

I've run both. Used trucks bought on the cheap and cobbled together. Brand new trucks with full warrantee and emissions. My break evens now are about a nickel lower than they were with the used trucks. Plus its easier to keep the good drivers/attract new drivers. If you have the credit, I'd go new, UNLESS youre the only one driving it. Then your guess is as good as mine.

I like my pre-emission iron but I'm pretty much the only driver so I don't need to worry about keeping a driver happy with bling and things. I see that point, but I'm not 25 any more and not having truck payments allows me to sleep even if I do have the odd expensive repair bill.

Heck you'd get experienced drivers no problem those who know know what a good truck is.If you offered me a say a 98 kw900 studio with a 3406e 550 18speed in well maintained condition or a new kw680 with a paccar motor I'd jump at the 98 in a second and so would a lot of the seasoned drivers.

    Mooose Thanks this.

Not sure why yu would make a statement like that.... a newer truck will keep an owner operator broke. Now in my opinion I would not own a truck with any emission components on it what so ever. So I I wouldn't buy a truck newer than a 2003
