Been here for about three months now, started out with a terrible automatic and they ended putting me in a practically brand new 2014 Freightliner with 60,000 miles on it, it has been a great truck. I get 3,000 to 3300 miles a week so there really isn't any such thing as sitting, they keep you moving if you want to move. This is really my first company so I can't compare to others really. The terminals are like any others that I have seen, they don't look like much but its a place to relax when you're in the shop or on a reset, the terminal in Olive Branch, MS is VERY nice and up to date with a huge shop attached to it, the Loudon terminal is a total dump, and if you are based out of there you can get hung out to dry depending on your fleet manager.
As far as US Xpress goes, they are the "parent company" but you would really never know it. We operate pretty independently and only haul Total freight, no Xpress trailers. Several of their drivers seem to jump ship to Total because, honestly we are spoiled a little bit which is great and really doesn't make you feel like you are controlled by anyone, you almost run like an o/o believe it or not. Our trailers are not in the best of shape by any means and like any other company you do hear bad things but I have not seen anything really bad. Most drivers I talk to are very happy and have been here for years. The safety department isn't great by any means and sometimes you just want to scream at them, but it is what it is.
One last note, All drivers got a raise at the beginning of last month, even new drivers like myself. All in all its a good company and you will run your butt off if you're based out of Olive Branch or Jackson, can't say much about Loudon, the drivers I have talked to there seem to run 2300-2500 a week average.
Going great at Total!!
