Yea, where ya live means a lot. I have a friend in the computer field. He made $70,000 year in Cali. The problem was he had a 2 hour drive to and from work. He couldn't afford to live close. Even then he was barely making it. He got a transfer to West Virginia, making the same $$. Now he lives 5 minutes from work and is living large.

Where ya live makes a huge difference.

    Kinda odd.....
Most people move "out" of West Virginia to do better, but they were not into computers neither.

Once again, I beg to differ. Gross is the big ticket. However, if one driver is spending $70/day for food, smokes, drinks, and candy, he's not going to net as much out of the $200K. (a pretty good mid-range number) Another driver shops at grocery stores, doesn't smoke or use soft drinks, he'll net a lot more out of that same $200K. Net is mostly an individual lifestyle number, a consequence of foolish choices or smart choices. One driver will withhold 25% of his gross for taxes, $.10 - $.20/mile for truck maintenance, and he'll show a lower net number but be much stronger in his business. Then, another driver will spend all the money like he's rich, not deposit into a maintenance account, drive a flashy pickup when he's home - he might show more net income, but he'll pay higher taxes and be a lot more vulnerable. So, go ahead and do it your way. It's all about you, driver. For me - everything I do with my income is based on what my gross income is. I know the percentages, cost, services, fuel, everything, so I just need the gross number, which fluctuates week to week, and I know how to make all those choices. I don't even get a net number until I know how many miles are on my settlement.

I made 51k last year and will make about 60k this year working for JB Hunt Intermodal in Harrisburg PA. I work 12-14 hour days 5 days a week and I'm at the bottom end of the pay scale.

First job out of CDL school I worked for a local cowboy dry van outfit for five weeks and was making 47 cpm gross, 36 cpm net. But I almost got killed running with them, so there was that. At that rate, I was on track to make a staggering $42K, GROSS and that's no lie, drivers. I only averaged 251 miles per day due to massive yard relay and local work, but the mileage was getting better up to the point where and when I had my near-death experience.

I love the guys who chime in here claiming they drive three days, home every night, back rubs at every stop, free ice cream at the terminals and make $78K per year.
    Just awesome.:biggrin_25514:

What's so funny? Real drivers trying to make a living and sharing ideas? I guess I missed the joke.
