Not necessarily dumb, but all of us are forgetful, & sometimes we are forgetful at the wrong moment.

Once a chicken feed truck driver left a chicken farm in the north part of the country & did not let his feed boom down, after bringing down numerous electrical wires he stopped, to find him self dragging many feet of electric wires & phone lines.

Maybe he left the engine running & for some reason the boom raised up after he hit the road. I have heard of that happening local, & the investigation that followed proved it happned that way yet the driver was still held at fault.

Sometimes I wonder if we'd be better off pushing loads in front like the big ocean going freighters. This way we could look out front and see what we are hitting lol :)

Equipment operators are not "truck drivers" anymore than heavy haul guys are equipment operators. This situation worked out perfectly. The construction company thought they would save money by having one of their $12 an hour dump truck drivers haul that excavator to the job site, nobody was hurt, the company ends up paying a ton of money in fines plus repairing the bridges and the machine...
Next time they'll pay a professional to move their machine.
