My W900L has a 72" studio with the sofa bed. Like Hurst said its miserable uncomfortable to sleep on. I bought a good 4" memory foam mattress topper and it is now extra comfortable. I thought about sleeping on the top bunk but I didn't like the thought of climbing up there all the time.

The nice part about that sofa bed is you can bring passengers with you if you want. It has seat belts on each side of it when its made into a couch.

No worries. Smaller means more cuddling. And no worries if she is on top.

It is great for sitting on when you are sitting still and relaxing watching movies or what ever, terrible to sleep on, I wound up sleeping on the top bunk when I had mine.

It's very interesting to hear the weights and fuel economy these Western Stars are getting. I'm going to have to scoot over to their sub-forum to figure out if it's part of the equation in scaling 48.5k on a connestoga.

Absolutely true IMO. The 2008 Wilson needs to have the frame blasted and painted but the 1995 Reitnouer looks the same as it did when we got it 15 years ago.....except for the nasty crack in the main beams in front of the 1st axle.

I had one since 2007 and I liked it. I used it and the desk to do paperwork, eat, look for loads, request permits. I even put the kids car seat back there on a local trip or two. Used it for everything but sleeping.

My main goal is a tractor with a larger sleeper then the 70" in the Columbia I have now.

I have a 2012 Fontaine 53' Infinity hybrid stepdeck with aluminum deck and steel frame. It listed as 11,440 lbs. How ever I have the Universal ramps, 2 boxes loaded with my gear. It has the heavy rails, sliders on both sides, plus 7/16 chain points down the deck. I do containers from time to time. But not really enough to pay an additional expense for the twist locks.

I'd like a set up where I can scale at least 47k, still have 150 gal tanks (cutting back on a litttle fuel in order to scale doesnt really bother me), have a sleeper large enough for my fatness and wife to be comfortable in... oh and do a little better than 5.5 mpg. I want to eat my cake too. LOL.

To me the 660 seems like the only logical alternative. Though doing a 50 or 51' step to save some weight.. I didnt know they existed. I thought it was 48 or 53 as my only options. I guess I really do need to do some more homework.

Thanks for the input. I really do appreciate it. Any more suggestions or advise.. bring it.

If you get a Doonan or the Chaparral they have an option for a tool box between the frame rails, get it, it is a great place to store your ramps and a ladder. Mine was 10' deep, kept a 10' ladder in it. a broom, shovel, and a few other things. I screwed PVC pipe to the top of the box so I could shove the shovel and broom handles in there, kept everything neat and in order.

The other great thing about that box, when you are hooked up to the trailer, no one can steal your ramps and it makes everything look cleaner.

I would also look at getting a trailer with a sliding rear axle set, this way you can shorted up to be canada legal, yet you can still run it as a 10'6" spread.

If memory serves shortening the trailer that 3 feet saves close to 1000 lbs.

Another option I really like with them is putting the air lines under the neck instead of on the front of the trailer, it makes everything look a whole lot cleaner, and it keeps them out of the way. This is especially useful if you are loading something that overhangs on the front deck, and with a 10' upper you will frequently.

Oh and that does leave a 3rd option I almost forgot, you can also get a 48' step that has an 8' upper deck and a 40' lower that is legal to run a can on, this would let you drop a lot of weight, yet still have a long lower deck, you can still overhang 3' in the front.

    Hurst and bergy Thank this.
