steering wheel holders call road service out at 2 a.m. to replace a glad hand rubber. Truck drivers just go WTF?? why did the last dumb @@@ not replace this? And fix it.
Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
Isn't many of today's truck drivers just "Steering Wheel Holders?" Isn't that about the only thing today's truck drivers have to do, just place it in drive & go .............................................. the same as people do when they get in their cars!

I don't EVER hold my steering wheel. Screw it!
Wild Murphy and Starboyjim Thank this. -
Did you all see the last issue of "The Trucker"? They wrote a story on Roadcheck and mentioned a driver that was put OOS because he had very little break pad left on one of his trailer wheels. THAT'S a steering wheel holder. What kind of moron doesn't look at his pads before taking off?

Pay is the same, drivers don't pay themselves. Don't lose any sleep over who is what.Wild Murphy Thanks this.

That is what you call poor preventable matainence on a Own/operator or a company mechanic who is lazy to get off his ### and fix the equipment. If you own your own truck and the you have backing plates on the trailer and trucks it is a much longer process to check you pads on your back on the ground.
If the ground is wet or muddy then it gets a bit messy and with the newer lower step decks with smaller wheels you may find it a bit tight and hard to get at the pads to check.
But a driver shound have some idea how long or how many miles he/she will put on the equipment untill the equipment needs to be checked for break problems. Of coarse that all depends on the driver and the area and terrain you are traveling threw.
A hand help lazer temperature gage helps a bit to check if you drums are over heating or not hot enough. It help to determine up and coming problems like lack of ajusted breaks or much bigger problems like a bad bearing or lack of grease. And to check the tire temperature for over heating tires and a tire gage to check tire pressure.Last edited: Jul 17, 2014
