Like the others have said, dont sweat it. As long as you documented it well (and it sounds like you did) you are good to go.

If you're on paper logs you could just adjust things. IMHO you did the second best thing & should be fine.

Just curious- you working for Leavitt? Trying to figure out who you could be hauling poles for as a student. Sherman Bros? Shifflet?

Also, I would like someone to quote me the "safe haven" rule from the FMCSA regs.

After 8 days you are not required to show the dot that log sheet and after 6 months just burn it.

It is only against the law if you get caught...

Safe havens are places where certain hazmat class can park. There is no safe haven rule that allows a you to exceed hours of service. That's just an excuse for poor trip planning.

OP described "adverse conditions" which does allow a driver to exceed the 11-hour rule by 2 hours due to unforeseeable delays (accident qualifies). But it does not allow a driver to exceed their 14 or 70.

OP did what was safest & most practical, but it wasn't legal. Just another example of the many flaws in our HOS rules.

No, no, no, this is a prime example of the lack of parking in this country. I'm glad I work local and don't have to worry about it.

Doble yellow covered it, but nobody can quote you a "safe haven" rule about being out of driving time because there isn't one! It just keeps getting thrown around like it does.
