    Hi,

I am trying to get back on the road with the future goal of possibly getting hired for NoDak oil fields. But, every time I try to get my physical "white coat syndrome" kicks in and takes my walking around bp of 125/70 ish and drives it up arounf 160/75 or 80. Luckily my physician understands the syndrome and I walk away from a "free bp screening" but won't pass me. Beyond that I am concerned for my hiring prospects even if I do sneak by.

Looking for any ideas. Yes, I have them take it multiple times. And I use visualization.

Ask your doctor to wear a different colored coat if the white one freaks you out so bad.

I would make sure it's just not white coat syndrome. How many times have you checked your BP away from a doctor? Then there is the issue of walking back to the room raises your BP.

I would check with your primary care physician. Maybe you just need a med adjustment. I went through about four adjustments before they were happy. I take both Lisinopril and Metoprolol.

Don't eat that morning, don't drink coffee and if you smoke, try to avoid that for a couple hours.

Get a massage right before your physical. And work out tons the night before so everything is sore.

    King34 Thanks this.

King34, I suffer from this as well, hell mine shot up to 160/110 once.

The clinic I go to has a "quiet room" where they send you to lay down for 10 minutes and re test. Theyll keep doing that as long as you want to lay there and get it down, but the med card is only good for a year if you dont get it on that first shot.

Cut out caffeine for a couple days before you test, eat a lot of raw foods too (veggies, salads grains etc.) to keep your sodium levels down. Don't eat a full meal before you go, and go as early in the day as possible.

    King34 and slowpoke89 Thank this.

I had the same issue. The last two times I did it i laid on my left side for a few minutes and bp went down around 20 points. I went in bp 147/ 89 laid on my left side and it went down to 120 / 80. 2 years ago while taking my dot physical the nurse told to do it. I've done it at home as well, because I was stressing about taking dot physical the next day. Try it!!! Apple Cider vinegar helps also. you take a medicine cup full ( like the ones that come with cough syrup). I take it 2x daily, it also helps with weight loss. Get the unfiltered kind with the Mother in it. Some say organic but unfiltered with the mother is the important part. Good Luck!!!

WOW!!! Great responses guys. Everything makes it sound like gthis is not common but nice to know I am not alone. Don't like the idea of meds because bp never a problem out of office. Have tried many machines including at home and store kiosk machines. All put me in 120/65 range. Tracked days at a time 3 times each morn mid-day and eve all same range. Thanks for all the helpful ideas.

Like lagbrosdetmi was saying, watch your sodium. That's the main culprit that will send your blood pressure soaring.
