Hello knowledgeable truckers!
I have a question, what do you think is the best paying, Second best paying company sponsored school and also best paying while in school and training? I am looking to finally make the leap and would prefer to get my cdl through a company that provides training.
Thanks for your time and replies!

I'm guessing, OK? :
Prime Inc. - $650.00 weekly
Knight Transportation - $400.00 weekly for 4-6 weeks, then regular pay.
Southern Refrigerated Transport - regular team pay while on the road training after CDL classroom.
Better to check these figures with a phone call. -
I have been considering Knight myself along with another carrier. Knight's training program seems pretty legit. I am limited in my choices by my need for a pet policy but you may have more freedom. The pay at Knight is a little better than most especially when you include the .05 CPM in bonuses you could receive. I looked into Prime at one time but their program is MUCH longer than others. It is a real apprenticeship program and takes awhile to complete. Be sure to read over it carefully.

First off, no company is going to pay you while in school. You may be able to take an advance during that time, but you won't be actually hired until you get your CDL. The above mentioned amounts are for the training that takes place after you have your CDL.
FYI, the Prime program generally takes about as long as most others. The PSD program (to get the CDL) typically runs 2-4 weeks; most do it in around 3. The TnT program (post-hire training) typically runs 6-8 weeks. Since it's all one-on-one training, a lot depends on how quickly you pick up what you need to know. -
The training pay at Knight is also during the CDL training itself in addition to the weekly pay while in the trainer truck.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
3-4 weeks ? then you start making money ? but not before right ? then looks like another 30,000 miles of training. so in all your sharing space with another person aprox. 5 months ?

i know you were not positive but Prime Inc. is $600 guarantee before taxes or .12 per mile whichever is higher.

I think it's pretty ironic southern refrigerated doesn't hire out of Florida. haha

The biggest question that should be asked on this topic is never asked. I agree pay is very important but one of the first questions i asked all companies that I talked to is "how much experience do I have to have to become a trainer". They get excited when this is asked because they think thats your goal and all companies need more trainers. For someone doing their homework it tells you about how much experience your trainer is likely to have. From experience i can tell you that at 6 months to a year you know just enough to get your job done (hopefully safely). Being trained by someone with this little amount of experience is the blind leading the blind. Its not as much how much money will I be making while training as it is how well will I be trained to safely do my job and the quality of training will I receive. That is what is going to determine your level of success in the ability to make a good living and be able to make it home safely to your family. Information is power so you really need to ask all the questions you can before you jump in with both feet.
Joetro Thanks this.
