Hello, I am looking at a few driving schools in the vicinity of Colorado Springs. One of them is US Truck Driving School. They have 2 locations, one near Denver, and one near Pueblo. I'm looking at the one near Pueblo, and have just been approved for financing. Price tag is $3995 cash, or $5995 to finance, and since I can't afford either, it's finance for me. 6000 bucks seems a little steep, they're not PTDI certified that I can tell, and training is only 3 weeks long, with 4 drivers per instructor, 12 students max per class. Google and Glassdoor reviews are about average, as they are with any trucking school/company. I'm just wondering if anybody can tell me anything about this school, or can maybe mention a better one in my area. Thanks.

One of my friends went there last year and completed it. He said it was a good school...its right off the 25 by the race track. I was going to go there but am going to hold off until I ETS from the Army and go to a school in San Antonio where Im going to live.

Went to USTDS in May...my son went in June. We are both at Schneider Orientation in California right now. Our orientation started with 18 and we have 11 left. Of those that are left four went to USTDS and one went to SAGE out of Colorado. They will make you employable for trucking companies.

Most of the companies will pay you a sign on bonus and pay your tuition (over a time period) back to you. Be careful of the companies that will train you. You become a slave to low wages and poor treatment and if you leave for any reason you have to pay it back.

When you get to school find someone to team with. Teams make more money and get better loads and better trucks. When picking a company research that company thoroughly before deciding to sign with one. Don't believe all the BS you hear from recruiters. Talk to drivers at a truck stop. They'll tell you!

If you have any more questions just let me know.

Most of those companies with terminals in Denver will hire you from that school.

It's actually in Fountain. No real experience with them. Went to a job fair they were hosting... that led to me working for a sod farm in Pueblo managed by a guy who was pretty much impossible to work for (Southwest Farms off of US50 in Pueblo... if that one's still open - and it might be, as the guy had gone through six drivers in as many months when I went to work for him - trust me, don't do it). Inquired once about a P2 endorsement when I was looking at possibly working for Ramblin Express... they told me I'd have to go to the facility in Wheat Ridge.
Only other time I'd been there was when a buddy of mine got hired on with a horse hauling company in Fountain while he had his permit... he went there to finalize his testing so he could get his CDL, in his company's truck.
The instructors I talked to did seem pretty on the level, and didn't come across as having their heads up their rectums, so I look at that as a positive thing.
They also gave me a good list of places to look for employment when I first moved to Co. Springs in 2010, and I do appreciate that, but this was over the phone, so I'm not sure who I was talking to exactly.
Feedback from the few people I know who've gone there seems generally positive.
