I was one step below Nudist Colony Shoe Shiner... assembling bikes at Wally World. I make about... oh... 625% more driving a truck than I did at Walmart.
Heck, I even had a bad week last week and only turned 2100 miles. I still made, in one week, what Walmart paid me to work a whole month. I'd say I'm averaging about $900 a week after taxesalmost what I was making at GM. Not bad for hanging on to a steering wheel and keeping the shiny side up.
UH oh ...I forgot about mountains

I see you'r from Georgia. If you want to drive and never see a hill get a job in the mid west hauling into the northern Alberta oil sands. We met a few drivers that have been doing this for years. As the development of this area is taking off big time more and more trucks are needed. No hills low traffic volumes, some bad weather in winter.

I have no phobias of which I am aware - except wifeophobia... but lots of people are scared of my wife. So maybe it's not a true phobia (phobia is generally an unreasonable fear, after all)
I just got a job offer this morning that I'm seriously considering... pay is better than I was getting at my IT job - by about 25%. The downside is, I'll probably have to shave.
Job is tanker, hauling petroleum products (diesel, gasoline, etc) west of Denver.
I.e., mountains. Rather large ones. Not all on Interstate, too. And fuel. Sounds like a LOT of fun.
But I DO understand phobias. My mother has a horrible fear of heights, herself. To the point she dislikes stairs and stepladders. She can overcome those problems... driving in the mountains, she leaves to my father while she concentrates on NOT looking out the window. Cross-stitch is good for something after all.
On the other hand, flying doesn't bother her, nor does looking out windows in *very* tall buildings (such as the Sears Tower). There's no apparent connection between you and the ground there, so her brain can say "that's not a fall, it's just pretty". Or something like that.
It can take a lot to overcome a phobia. It's going to depend on the severity and the flavor. Best of luck and hope your's doesn't prevent you from enjoying a job you might like -
) BUT efff getting on a ladder, or climbing anything.
My wife and I went to Helen, GA. and I was white knuckling the wheel all the way there. For some reason I love rollercoasters, bungee jumping, rapelling, fast roping, etc. Pretty much no problems jumping or rapelling out of a perfectly good plane or helicopter, riding a ski lift....yeah now that I think about it...wow.
